Undead - Incorporeal

Shadowy, sun-fearing undead that shrug off ordinary metal weapons — the fight is about what you're holding, not how hard you hit. This page covers the currently documented members; more incorporeal undead may be added here over time.

Shadow

Source: Dungeons & Dragons (Shadow)

HP: 20  |  Attack: 2  |  Speed: normal

A nimble, sun-fearing shade that weakens what it touches and slips away the moment you land a hit.

The threat: your weapon barely works on it

The Shadow resists metal — the better your blade, the less it hurts: iron, diamond, and netherite all get progressively shrugged off, and a bare fist or wooden weapon barely registers. The counter is gold (or a purpose-made shadow-bane weapon), which lands full force and then some. Meanwhile its hits blind and weaken you, and being struck sends it fleeing into the dark to come at you again. Fighting one with a diamond sword is a trap; bring gold.

Abilities

  • Metal resistance — higher-tier metal weapons deal progressively less damage; a golden sword or a shadow-bane weapon instead lands full force with a bonus (and ignores the Weakness it inflicts).
  • Blind & weaken on hit — its strikes have a high chance to blind you and a smaller chance to inflict Weakness (a golden helmet blocks the blindness).
  • Flees when struck — bolts away the instant it's hurt, then circles back.
  • Sunlight-sensitive — burns in direct daylight and flees toward shade.

Where to find them

Common anywhere in the Overworld, and in the Nether.

Shadowlord

Source: Ultima series (Shadowlord)

HP: 50  |  Attack: 8  |  Armor: 10  |  Speed: slow

The greater shade — a hulking shadow-tyrant wrapped in a permanent aura of blinding darkness, and it heals from the harm it deals.

The threat: a Shadow boss that fights back on every front

It carries the same metal resistance as a lesser Shadow — gold and shadow-bane weapons are still the answer — but it's far tougher and comes with a full toolkit. Just standing near it blinds you (a golden helmet blocks it). Its blows can poison you and drain your life to top up its own health. It casts a harmful spell at range, summons undead reinforcements, and on rare occasions can even call in a Daemon. A drawn-out slugfest only feeds it.

Abilities

  • Metal resistance — same as the Shadow: metal weapons are shrugged off; gold and shadow-bane weapons land full force.
  • Aura of Blindness — continuously blinds any player standing close (a golden helmet blocks it).
  • Life drain — heals itself from damage it deals, on a cooldown.
  • Spellcasting — casts a harmful bolt at range.
  • Summons minions — conjures undead reinforcements, with a rare chance to summon a Daemon.
  • Poison on hit — a chance to poison you on a landed melee strike.
  • Sunlight-sensitive — burns in direct daylight and flees toward shade.

Where to find them

An uncommon Overworld threat — very rarely in the Nether's wastes.
