Editing Animations
The Animations tab changes character animations (emotes, idles, walks) without leaving the game. It can:
- Bake your LivePose adjustments into an animation, so the pose you set becomes part of it.
- Stop an animation from moving some bones, handing them back to physics (hair, cloth, tails).
- Repair an animation's skeleton, so it plays correctly for other players and sync plugins, whatever skeleton mod you use.
Every edit can be undone. To look at an animation in Blender instead, see Animations in Blender.
- Baking pose adjustments needs the LivePose plugin. The other tools don't.
- Instant Edit matches each animation to the skeleton it was made for, using a skeleton library built from your mods. It's built the first time you need it and saved in the cache folder. After installing, updating or removing skeleton mods, press Rebuild skeleton library in Settings > Cache.
- Open the Animations tab.
- Play the animation on your character: an emote, your idle, or walk around (outside combat).
- It appears in the list at the top under Playing now, with the mod it comes from and its file. Animations you played earlier stay listed under Played recently.
- Click it to select it.
Many animations have a startup (the part that leads into the loop). It's listed with the animation and can be selected on its own.
The Source tab shows the animation's file, your live skeleton, and the skeleton the animation was made for. If several skeletons fit, pick the right one here. If none is found, rebuild the skeleton library in Settings.
Use this when you've adjusted bones in LivePose (for example fixed a hand clipping through your hip) and want the animation to always look like that.
- Adjust the bones in LivePose while the animation plays.
- Open the LivePose tab. Press Refresh offsets if you changed something in LivePose since.
- Tick the bones to bake, and for each whether to bake its position, rotation and scale.
- Optional: tick Include startup in rebake to change the startup too.
- Choose where the result goes (see Step 4).
- Press Rebake with LivePose.
The adjustments become part of the animation and are cleared from your live pose, so they don't apply twice. Clear all offsets removes every LivePose adjustment from your character, and Reapply offsets puts them back.
Use this when an animation locks bones that should move freely, such as hair, skirts or a tail.
- Open the Animated bones tab. It lists every bone the animation moves.
- Untick the bones the animation should stop moving. The filter box and Tick matching / Untick matching help with long lists.
- Keep only unticks every bone outside a standard set in one click: Vanilla, IVCS or IVCS + YAS.
- Choose where the result goes and press Rebake without unticked bones.
Use this when an animation was made for a big custom skeleton and looks broken for other players or in sync plugins.
- Open the Skeleton repair tab.
- Under Repair onto, pick the standard skeleton: Vanilla (the game's own), IVCS or IVCS + YAS. Instant Edit starts with the smallest one that has every bone you left ticked. A greyed-out choice means that skeleton isn't in your skeleton library; hover it for details.
- Result shows how many of the animated bones are kept. Choose where the result goes and press Repair skeleton.
Only the bones the animation moves are written, at the positions other players' skeletons expect. Bones the chosen skeleton doesn't have are left out. Tip: use Keep only in Animated bones first, then repair, to trim an oversized animation.
Each tool ends with the same choice:
- Create new mod: the edited animation goes into a new mod with the Mod name you enter. The original stays untouched.
- Replace in-place: overwrites the animation in the mod it comes from.
Animations straight from the game files always need Create new mod.
Every edit is recorded for a week.
- Undo last edit reverts the last edit's files and restores the live offsets it cleared.
- The Recent edits tab lists older edits with their own undo buttons. If the game closed in the middle of an edit, the tab shows a count, such as Recent edits (1): open it and undo that edit to clean up.
