The Plugin Window

link-0402 edited this page Oct 6, 2026 · 3 revisions

Type /ie in the chat to open the plugin window. /iesettings opens Settings, and /ie refresh reloads the On Screen list.

The toolbar

Along the top of the window:

  • The tabs: On Screen, Mod Browser, Game Files, Sessions, Animations and Quick Actions. Each is explained below.
  • Status dots for Penumbra, Blender and (when painting is turned on) Substance Painter. Green means ready. Hover a dot for details.
    • Blender Offline: Blender isn't running, or the add-on isn't enabled.
    • Blender Mismatch: Blender answers, but the add-on is a different version from the plugin. Update it.
  • Refresh (the circling arrows) reloads the On Screen list.
  • Options (the sliders) opens a small panel with settings you'll change often:
    • Model import: whether models arrive in Blender with textures and materials for preview, racial scaling (see Racial scaling), and whether to keep the armature that comes with the model or use a skeleton already in your scene.
    • Texture editing: Recompress saved textures. On, your edits keep the texture's original compression (smaller files). Off, they're saved uncompressed (bigger, but pixel-perfect).
    • Animation export: the name of the Blender armature animations are sent to, and Key bone scale.

The status strip

The bottom line of the window shows the latest message of the tab you're on, such as "Sent top.mdl to Blender" or a warning. Hover it to read the whole message. The clock button at its right shows a history of recent messages. While something is working you'll see Working, and a Cancel button when the task can be stopped.

Warnings, errors and "sent to Blender" messages also pop up as Dalamud notifications, even with the window closed. You can turn this off in Settings.

On Screen

On Screen lists everything your character, as well as your minion, mount and summon are loading right now: body, face, hair, gear, weapons and more, with the mod each file comes from. This is the easiest place to start.

  • Each character has sections for Character features (body, face, hair, tail, ears), Gear and Other. Click the arrows to open or close them.
  • The chips at the top (All, Models, Textures, Materials) filter the list. The numbers show how many rows each has.
  • The search box searches names, mods and paths.
  • Include vanilla also shows files that come straight from the game (no mod replaces them). You need this to edit an unmodded model or texture: your first edit then goes into a new mod.
  • The list refreshes by itself a second after you change a mod in Penumbra or your character is redrawn. You can turn that off in Settings and use the refresh button instead.

Row buttons

Every row has buttons on its right. You can also right-click a row for the same actions.

Button What it does More
Pencil (on a model) Edit model in Blender Editing a model
Brush (on a texture) Edit texture in your image editor Editing textures
Paint roller (on a model) Paint textures in Substance Painter Painting in Substance Painter
Three dots Copy game path, Copy resolved path, Open containing folder, Open in Penumbra, Show in Mod Browser

Hover previews

Hover a row to see a preview before doing anything:

  • Textures show the image, with its alpha channel.
  • Materials show their texture slots.
  • Models show a summary (meshes, materials, attributes) and a small rendered thumbnail.

Mod Browser

Mod Browser shows the files inside any Penumbra mod, whether or not you're wearing it.

  1. Pick a mod in the list on the left. The search box above it filters your mods.
  2. The right side lists the mod's models, textures, materials and animation files. The selectors at the top filter them.
  3. Use the same row buttons as in On Screen: pencil for models, brush for textures. Animation files (.pap) get a pencil that sends them to Blender (see Animations in Blender).

Tip: A mod can use the same model file in several options or use texture variants. From the Mod Browser, Instant Edit can't always tell which configuration you mean. For mashups and "save as new mod", start from On Screen instead.

Sessions

Sessions lists your texture edits and Substance Painter projects. The number in the tab name is how many you have active. See Editing textures for what you can do here.
