Racial Scaling
Most gear in FFXIV is made once and worn by several races. For example, tall female races wear the Hyur
Midlander model of most gear, marked c0201 in its path, and the game reshapes it for each race on the fly.
When you send such a model to Blender, you normally get the unshaped Midlander version, which doesn't line up with your own character's face, hair or tail. Racial scaling fixes that for previewing.
- Click the sliders button in the plugin's toolbar.
- Under Model import, tick Apply racial scaling for model import.
With this enabled, a model made for another race goes to Blender and Substance Painter reshaped for the race of the character it comes from, the same way the game does it. Blender builds the armature from that race's skeleton too.
For Mod Browser and Game Files models, which aren't on a character, the first character in On Screen is used.
A reshaped model is for looking at, not for exporting. The file other races load has to keep its own race's shape, so writing the reshaped version back would break it for everyone else.
- Every mesh of a scaled import has an
xiv_racial_scalingentry in Blender's Custom Properties, such asc0201 to c0801, and the export panel lists these meshes as an error. - Quick Export, new mods and mashups refuse scaled models.
- Simple Export still writes them, after asking, and warns that the file keeps the scaled shape.
To edit and export the model, re-import it with racial scaling turned off.
Models of your character's own race (faces, hair, tails) are never changed.
