Auto Refresh
A naviList playlist can rebuild itself on a schedule, so a "random 90s rock" playlist is fresh each day or week.
At the bottom of the rules builder, under Auto-refresh, pick how often:
| Choice | Extra fields |
|---|---|
| Don't refresh | none. The playlist only changes when you regenerate it |
| Every hour | which minute: :00, :15, :30 or :45 |
| Every day | time |
| Every week | day of the week and time |
| Every month | day of the month (1 to 28) and time |
| Custom (cron) | a cron expression, for anything else |
A line under the picker spells it out and shows the next run, such as Every Friday at 18:30 · next run Fri 9 Oct, 18:30 (Europe/Stockholm).
You can see and change a playlist's schedule any time from Edit rules.
Choose Custom (cron) and type a standard five-field cron expression: minute, hour, day of month, month, day of week. For example:
| Expression | Meaning |
|---|---|
0 6 * * * |
every day at 06:00 |
*/15 9-17 * * 1-5 |
every 15 minutes, 09:00 to 17:59, Monday to Friday |
0 6 1,15 * * |
06:00 on the 1st and 15th |
If naviList can't read your expression, the line under the box turns red. It's only a warning. The server has the final say, and refuses to save an expression it can't use.
If you open a playlist whose schedule fits one of the simple choices, the picker shows it that way. Anything else opens in Custom.
Schedules run on the naviList container's clock, not your browser's. In Docker that's UTC unless you set TZ. The summary line shows which timezone it's using. To change it, add this to your compose file and restart:
environment:
- TZ=Europe/StockholmIt rebuilds the playlist from its rules and replaces its tracks. Tracks you added or removed by hand are lost. See Editing and Regenerating.
Schedules only apply to naviList playlists. ListenBrainz and Last.fm subscriptions follow the 30 minute service sync, and manual playlists, imports and snapshots don't refresh. See Playlist Types.
Rules playlists also rebuild after a library sync that finds artists that were missing before, so tracks from newly added music can appear.

Nothing seems to happen: check the Logs page for a line from
refresh. A refresh that finds no matching tracks is skipped and logged, and the playlist keeps what it had. -
It runs at the wrong hour: set
TZ.
