Rule Terms
These are the types you can pick in a block's first dropdown, or add as a condition.
| Term | Matches |
|---|---|
| Artist | tracks by one artist, optionally plus similar artists |
| Decade | tracks released in a decade |
| Genre | tracks with a genre |
| Mood | tracks whose artist has a mood tag |
| Stats | tracks picked by listening history, ratings, stars and so on |
Popularity, Studio / Live and Similar Artist also appear in the condition list. They work differently, so they have their own pages: Popularity, Studio and Live, Similar Artists.
Tracks by the artist you name. On its own it returns only that artist.
Add a Similar Artist condition to a block that starts with an Artist and it also includes artists similar to that one. See Similar Artists.
The name has to match an artist in your library. If it doesn't, the block has no tracks and the builder shows a count of zero.
Tracks from a decade, using each track's year. Type it as 1990s. 1990 and 90s also work.
Tracks with a genre.
- If a track has its own genre tag, that's what is checked.
- If a track has no genre tag, naviList falls back to the tags for its artist (from Last.fm and MusicBrainz). A track that has a genre tag is never added because of its artist's tags, so an artist's off-genre songs stay out.
The artist tags are collected in the background. See Background Jobs.
Tracks whose artist has a matching mood tag, such as melancholic or energetic. Moods come from MusicBrainz community tags, so how well this works depends on how well your artists are tagged there.
Tracks picked from listening data and library marks. Choose one of these:
| Choice | What you get |
|---|---|
| Top played | Your most played tracks. Pick a source (Navidrome, Last.fm, ListenBrainz or Maloja) and, for the external ones, a period (last 7 days up to all time) |
| Recently played | Tracks played within a window: last week, month, 3 months, year, or all time |
| Not recently played | The opposite: tracks you haven't played within that window |
| Loved tracks | Tracks you've loved on Last.fm or ListenBrainz |
| Disliked (excluded) | Tracks you've marked as disliked |
| Unplayed | Tracks that have never been played |
| Starred | Tracks you've starred in Navidrome |
| Highly rated | Tracks you've rated 4 stars or more in Navidrome |
Recently played and Not recently played use the listening history that naviList keeps from your connected services. Without a connected service they have little to work with. See Integrations.
Top played, Recently played and Highly rated keep their order. Everything else is shuffled.
On ListenBrainz you can give a track a thumbs-down. naviList remembers that and leaves those tracks out of every rules playlist, whatever the rules say.
