Studio and Live
By default, naviList playlists use studio recordings only. This page explains how that works, and how to let some live tracks in.
Libraries often hold the same song more than once: the studio version, a live version, a remaster. naviList keeps one copy of each song per playlist and prefers the studio one. A song that only exists as a live recording is left out.
A track counts as live when either:
- MusicBrainz confirms it. A background job looks at each artist's live releases on MusicBrainz and marks library tracks found on them. Studio versions are confirmed on demand.
- It looks live. The title or album says things like "Live at...".
A MusicBrainz result beats the text guess. After you save a playlist, a background check can swap a wrong pick for the right copy. That's why a freshly saved playlist can change a little a minute later.
Click + Add condition and choose Studio / Live, on a block or in Global Conditions. It starts at Studio 100 / Live 0. New playlists include a global one with these values.
Change the numbers to set the mix:
- Studio 80 / Live 20 gives about one live track in five.
- Studio 0 / Live 100 gives only live recordings.
- Blank for one side means it takes the rest.
The same rules apply as for Popularity: a side at 0% is never used, and the numbers must total 100% when both are filled in.
A song that has both a studio and a live copy is used once. Whichever side reaches it first takes it.
If a block uses both, naviList applies the Studio / Live split first, so the ratio is exact, then Popularity within each side.
- If a Studio / Live row at 100% studio still shows an odd live track, the track probably has no MusicBrainz data and an ordinary-looking title. That's a limit of the text guess.
- Manual playlists, and tracks you add by hand, are never changed.
