Fire Plow fire starter is crafter the same way as TFC stick fire starter using 2 sticks placed diagonally.

Hand Drill fire starter requires a board and a stick.

By default, neither TFC stick fire starter or Bow Drill, can be crafted. To enable the recipes, set the value of fireStarting.replaceOriginalFirestarterRecipes to false in the configuration. However, this in turn makes Fire plow recipe unavailable.

Usage

Right click the top of the block and then hold to start fire. To light an existing block such as a Firepit or Forge, also hold down shift (sneak) to avoid block activation.

The time it takes to use a fire starter varies. For example, using Hand Drill takes longer than Bow Drill. The ignition chance is the same for every tool and depends on the presence of Tinder and its quality.

The humidity of the environment can also affect ignition chance, but this option can be adjusted or disabled by changing the value of fireStarting.fireStartingHumidityImpact in the configuration.

When fire starting operation is successful and for some reason fire cannot started (usually due to lack of fuel), the tinder, if any, used to start the fire instead catches fire and becomes Smoldering Tinder. Smoldering Tinder can be used to lit a fire until it burns down. Tinder can also catch fire from certain fire sources, but Smoldering Tinder created in this manner burns down a lot sooner.

Blocks such as Bloomery and Blast Furnace can only be lit using Smoldering Tinder.

Notes

  • New fire starting functionality along with Tinder replaces now discontinued Kindling items.
