Flint
Flint can be used to create Flint tools and Flint tool heads.
Compared to Copper, Flint tools are slightly more efficient and do slightly more damage, however their durability is much lower.
Flint knapping is based on the Woodworking introducing new tools and workable materials.
First step is to reduce a flint found in the world into a flint core using a hard hammerstone.
Flint cores are then further reduced and shaped into final products using a soft hammerstone and often a Pressure Flaker.
During flint reduction, flint flakes are sometimes created as a byproduct. Flint flakes can be shaped into smaller flint products, such as arrowheads and drill heads.
Not every rock type is suitable to be used as a hammerstone. To be able to knap flint, specific rock types are needed.
The following rocks are suitable as hard hammerstones:
- Quartzite (best durability)
- Basalt
- Andesite
- Gabbro
- Dacite
- Diorite
- Granite
- Schist
The following rocks are suitable as soft hammerstones:
- Sandstone
- Limestone
- Dolomite
Alternatively, an antler Billet can be used as a soft hammer.
There is no alternative to rocks when it comes to a hard hammer.
To allow any rock to be usable as a hammerstone, change the value of crafting.enableFlintKnappingAnyStone to true in the configuration. Still, unsuitable rocks will last very few hits.
Flint core can be shaped into several products:
- Flint Hand Axe
- Flint Knife Blade
- Flint Axe Head (coming soon)
- Flint Adze Head (coming soon)
- Flint Javelin Head (coming soon)
Flint flake can be shaped into following products:
- Flint Drill Head (coming soon)
- Flint Arrowhead (coming soon)
Composite flint tools require hafting, which can be done with either or both of the following means:
- Cordage - durable string, twine or cordage
- Glue - certain amount of liquid glue (not to be confused with a slimeball)
| Product | Material | Hafting |
|---|---|---|
| Flint Knife | Flint Knife Blade + stick | Cordage |
| Flint Axe | Flint Axe Head + stick | Cordage + Glue |
| Flint Adze | Flint Adze Head + stick | Cordage + Glue |
| Flint Javelin | Flint Javelin Head + pole | Cordage + Glue |
| Flint Drill Shaft | Flint Drill Head + stick | Glue |
| Flint Arrow Shaft | Flint Arrowhead + stick | Glue |
Hafting knife requires only cordage, however haftling larger tools which suffer more impact stress requires glue as well.
Hefting smaller flint points requires only glue.
- Rocks do not have durability and instead there is a chance they break each time they are used as hammerstones.
