Safety and disclaimers
A convenience gadget, not a safety device.
- WinterDash is a hobby project. It is provided as-is, with no warranty of any kind. Use it at your own risk.
- Not a Victron product. WinterDash is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Victron Energy. The names "Victron" and "Blue Smart" are used only to describe the chargers WinterDash can read. WinterDash only reads a charger's public Bluetooth broadcast — it does not control the charger.
- Not a safety device. Don't rely on WinterDash for anything critical. It's a convenience gadget for a quick status check, nothing more.
- Electrical common sense. Chargers and batteries can be dangerous. Follow your charger's and battery's own instructions — WinterDash changes none of that.
- Your data stays yours. WinterDash runs on your own device, on your own network. The charger's Bluetooth code and your WiFi password are stored only on the device — no cloud, no account, no telemetry. Home Assistant, if you use it, talks to the device directly on your own network.
- Selling it or passing it on? Factory-reset first. So it can reconnect on its own, the device keeps your WiFi password and the charger's Bluetooth code in its flash memory. They never appear on screen, but someone holding the device with the right tools could read them out. Before you give it away, run a Factory reset — on a board with a screen: System → Factory reset; on any board: the web dashboard's System → Factory Reset (hold to confirm). That erases your WiFi and pairing. (The quick "Reset WiFi" only clears WiFi — the charger code stays — so use Factory reset to wipe everything.)
- Free software & credits. WinterDash is free software under the GNU GPL v3. It's built on excellent open-source work (ESPHome, LVGL, and more) — see CREDITS.
