Compact Command Bar

Jace edited this page Nov 6, 2026 · 3 revisions

If your account has no chat usage, the command bar's Add tabs or files and dictation buttons only say they need it. This hides them and moves Go up beside what you type, so the bar fits on one line: in the bar from ⌘L, on the new tab page, and in Command bar.

Compact command bar off, then on, on the new tab page and from ⌘L

Why use it

Without chat usage, Add tabs or files and the dictation button can't be used, but they still take up room and make the bar two lines tall. This hides them so the bar is one line. If your account has no chat usage, you lose nothing. If you have chat usage, the bar stays as it is unless you also turn on Compact with Chat Usage Too.

Turn it on

Open Dia → Settings → Patches and switch on Compact Command Bar. Or run:

diatweaks enable compactCommandBar

Why don't I see a difference?

With chat usage, those buttons work, so the bar keeps them. To compact it anyway, turn on Compact with Chat Usage Too under its Options. That hides Add tabs or files and dictation even though you could use them.
