Restoring a backup

Retained backup folders use the original slot name followed by _backup_ and a timestamp. Find them beside the original save or in the custom Backup location. The Save confirmation reports the location.
- Close RTW3 and Privateer.
- Find the backup for the correct campaign slot and point in time. Keep the backup itself intact.
- Preserve the current Game folder separately, outside the active Save directory, so you can recover it if needed.
- Copy the complete backup into the game's Save directory and name the copy with its original slot name, such as
Game3. Do not merge it into the edited folder or restore only the BCS file. - Open the restored slot in Privateer and Validate. Confirm that it is the intended campaign, then close Privateer.
- Load the same slot in RTW3 and check its date and state before continuing.
This restores the original slot; it does not convert a campaign into another slot. Keep every numbered file and companion file together.
With Create backups disabled, Privateer's temporary recovery copy is removed after a successful save. It is not a retained backup for later rollback. Use a separate known-good campaign copy or an earlier retained backup instead.
