Applying Outfits

What's an Outfit?

An 'outfit' is a collection of possibilities for clothing items used by the game. The rig can automatically read a specified outfit and apply all the clothing items after rolling the chances for each possibility.

Tip

Functionality to automatically place some body textures on top of others has not been implemented yet. You may notice that applying an outfit often places the socks in front of the shoes or has an undershirt on top of an overshirt. See Adding and Editing Clothing Items for how to fix this.

Clothing Chances

If you're curious, you can see the chances for each clothing item an outfit has in the 'Assets' subpanel in the 'Zomboid Assets' panel in the Properties Editor. For instance, here are the chances for the male 'Chef' outfit:

OutfitChances

Some outfits are specified to use some random generic clothing as a base, which is signified by the 'Random Top' or 'Random Pants' booleans.

Randomization

There are additional options you can choose when applying an outfit. They're self explanatory, but you can choose:

  • Whether the random outfit will use zombie textures
  • Whether to randomize the current skin tone of the character
  • Whether to randomize the current hair style (will change both the male and female hair styles)
  • Whether to randomize the current hair color
    • Whether the random hair color will pull from a list of natural hair colors, or just pull a completely random color
  • The chance of whether a beard will be added (which will only matter if a male outfit is used)
  • Whether to randomly add body damage onto the character (see Body Damage)

You can also choose to apply a random outfit altogether instead of having to select one manually. Try applying the same outfit over and over again to see what changes!
