AI Brains
The AI button on the war setup screen chooses which AI runs your enemies and which runs your allies, per race. Its text reads: "TITANS: base game AI / QUELLER: greater challenge at the cost of performance / PENCHANT: increased personality / An AI that does not know a race is not offered for it." The table has one row per installed race and two columns, Opponent and Ally. From the next release it has a third column, Co-op, and the text adds "CO-OP: the AI players a host adds to a co-op session".
| Brain | Races it knows | Character |
|---|---|---|
| Titans | Every race | The base game's AI, following the faction's unit mix and the commander's personality |
| Queller | MLA and Legion | A harder AI that costs more processing. It fights with the faction's preferred arm and has its own behaviour in an FFA |
| Penchant | MLA only | The base game's AI given a distinct flavour on top of its personality |
Opponent is the brain your enemy factions use. Ally is the brain your Sub Commanders and any allied Commander use. You can pick different brains for each, and different brains for each race.
Co-op, from the next release, is the brain the host's AI players use. Until you pick one, it follows the Opponent brain.
Queller does not use the faction production shares on Factions. Instead it takes the faction's arm: Legonis Machina tanks, Foundation air, Synchronous bots, Revenants orbital, and Cluster land. In an FFA system it switches to its FFA behaviour. Ten personalities never appear under Queller: the eight faction specialists (Armor, Roboticist, Air Force, Navy, Grunt, Dragoon, Space Invader, and Astronaut) plus Fabber and Swarm. Sub Commander Fabber Tech is never offered while your Sub Commanders use Queller.
Penchant is the Titans brain with a flavour added, shown after the personality name in Planetary Intelligence and on the Sub Commander card. A flavour adds extra units to what the personality builds, so an "Aggressive Artillery" commander attacks early and also builds artillery.
| Flavour | Favoured units |
|---|---|
| Vanilla | None: the personality alone |
| Artillery | Pelter, Lob, Holkins, Catapult, and Unit Cannon |
| Fortress | Single Laser Defense Tower, Laser Defense Tower, Advanced Laser Defense Tower, Galata Turret, Flak Cannon, Torpedo Launcher, Advanced Torpedo Launcher, Umbrella, Anti-Nuke Launcher, Pelter, Lob, and Catapult, plus everything Minelayer builds |
| All-terrain | Dox, Slammer, Locusts, Drifter, and Kaiju |
| Assault | Ant, Leveler, Dox, Slammer, Kestrel, Orca, Barracuda, Leviathan, and Kraken |
| Boomer | Boom and Locusts |
| Heavy | Inferno, Vanguard, Slammer, Spark, Mend, Wyrm, Horsefly, Angel, Orca, Leviathan, and Barnacle |
| Infernodier | Grenadier, Gil-E, Bluehawk, Spark, Inferno, Vanguard, and Sheller |
| Raider | Stryker, Dox, Slammer, Boom, Locusts, Kestrel, Piranha, Kraken, and Typhoon |
| Sniper | Grenadier, Gil-E, Bluehawk, Sheller, Drifter, Hornet, Orca, and Leviathan |
| Nuker | Nuclear Missile Launcher |
| Tactical | Catapult, Flak Cannon, Bluehawk, Hornet, and Stingray |
| Platoon | No favoured units: it attacks in smaller numbers of larger armies |
| Minelayer | Land Mine and Stitch |
Every enemy commander and Sub Commander has a personality, shown in Planetary Intelligence. In the descriptions below, "advanced tech" is the point where the AI starts building advanced factories, and "self-assessment" is how it rates its own army against yours before attacking. An AI that overestimates itself attacks sooner and with less.
| Personality | Faction | Behaviour |
|---|---|---|
| Armor | Legonis Machina | Builds almost only vehicles |
| Roboticist | Legonis Machina | Builds almost only bots |
| Air Force | Foundation | Builds almost only air |
| Navy | Foundation | Builds almost only naval |
| Grunt | Synchronous | Builds almost only bots |
| Dragoon | Synchronous | Mostly air, with the rest in bots |
| Space Invader | Revenants | Builds only orbital |
| Astronaut | Revenants | Half air and half orbital |
| Personality | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Baseline | The faction's own unit mix, unmodified |
| Original | The personality the base game's Galactic War gave that faction |
| Boss | The faction boss: two fabbers per factory at both tiers, three times the fabbers when alone on a planet, and at least four basic and one advanced fabber |
| Uber | The personality behind Queller's top difficulty. Spends a little more freely, two advanced fabbers per factory, three times the fabbers when alone on a planet |
| Absurd | The personality behind the base game's top difficulty. Reaches advanced tech a little later, with at least two basic and three advanced fabbers |
| Fabber | Two fabbers per factory at both tiers and far fewer factories when alone on a planet. Not used by Queller |
| Defender | Reacts sooner to running out of resources but tolerates unmet demand. At least four basic fabbers |
| Luddite | Reaches advanced tech three times later than normal, twice as late when alone on a planet |
| Technologist | Reaches advanced tech twice as early, three basic fabbers per factory, at least four basic and one advanced fabber |
| Cautious | Underestimates its own strength, so it attacks only with a clear advantage. At least four basic fabbers |
| Aggressive | Overestimates its own strength by double, so it attacks early and often. At least two basic and one advanced fabber |
| Rush | Overestimates its strength by half and reaches advanced tech twice as late |
| Turtle | Rarely attacks, reaches advanced tech twice as early, three fabbers per factory at both tiers, and allows up to eight basic and six advanced fabbers. It defends and techs |
| Factory | Half a fabber per factory and almost ignores resource demand, so it builds factories over fabbers and keeps spending |
| Swarm | Ten basic factories for every advanced one and three advanced fabbers per factory: an endless stream of basic units. Not used by Queller |
| Economist | Reacts sooner to running out of resources and almost ignores unmet demand. At least four basic fabbers |
| Random | Drawn each war from the faction's other personalities |
The Cluster faction's Workers and Security use the generic personalities only. The Guardians on the treasure planet have the personality "Unknown".
Difficulty tiers apply a personality modifier on top: Slower Expansion on Beginner, Casual, and Iron, and Prevent Waste on Platinum, Diamond, and Uber. A Custom war can pick its own (see Difficulty).
