Factions
A war has five factions: the four from the base game and Cluster, which this mod adds. You play one, and the rest are your enemies. The setup tooltip sums them up: "Each faction has its own style of play affecting Sub Commanders and enemy commanders: LEGONIS MACHINA: vehicles / FOUNDATION: air/navy / SYNCHRONOUS: bots / REVENANTS: orbital / CLUSTER: land. Uses Angels and Colonels as Sub Commanders and cannot build them."
Each faction's AI splits its production across the five domains. These shares are the faction baseline, which most personalities adjust. The Titans and Penchant brains follow them; Queller ignores them and fights with its own version of the faction's preferred arm (see AI Brains).
| Faction | Vehicles | Bots | Air | Naval | Orbital | Colour |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Legonis Machina | 65% | 10% | 15% | 5% | 5% | Blue |
| Foundation | 20% | 5% | 25% | 45% | 5% | Purple |
| Synchronous | 10% | 65% | 15% | 5% | 5% | Green |
| Revenants | 25% | 20% | 5% | 5% | 45% | Red |
| Cluster | 45% | 40% | 5% | 5% | 5% | Grey |
Your faction decides:
- where your Sub Commanders come from
- which faction any allied Commander belongs to
- which faction you never fight, because it is your own
- your colour palette, and the co-op palette your team uses
It does not change your units, your tech, or which loadouts you can pick. Choosing Cluster locks your race to MLA.
Every enemy faction has a boss on its home system, always fielding the Pumpkin Commander. A boss's economy and AI tech are those of the farthest system in the galaxy, and it fields several Commanders in one shared army: the difficulty tier's boss commander count, multiplied by the number of co-op players. The war ends when the last boss falls.
| Faction | Boss | Home systems |
|---|---|---|
| Legonis Machina | Imperator Invictus | Kohr, Entara, Agoge |
| Foundation | Inquisitor Nemicus | Atlas, Xylcor, Blogar's Fist, Zeta Draconis |
| Synchronous | Metrarch the Machinist | Cupru, Platina, Fier, Safir |
| Revenants | First Seeker Osiris | Alenquer, Xianyao, Epiphany, Varthema |
| Cluster | Node | The Hive, Outpost, Hive Sentry, Miynde, O-01, O-02 |
Each of the four base factions has seventeen named commanders, each with a fixed personality. The seventeenth in every faction has a personality drawn at random from the other sixteen each war.

"Original" is the personality the base game's Galactic War used for that faction. The first two rows of each faction are specialists who only appear under the Titans and Penchant brains. See AI Brains for what every personality does.

Cluster is this mod's own faction and needs TITANS. It has no named commanders. Instead it fields two kinds of leader, each with one of thirteen generic personalities (Uber, Fabber, Defender, Luddite, Technologist, Cautious, Aggressive, Rush, Turtle, Absurd, Factory, Swarm, and Economist) or Random:
- Worker, an Angel that leads from the air.
- Security, a Colonel that leads from the ground.
Both are commander-grade: the Angel has ×5 health and the Colonel ×1.5625, each carries a commander build arm, and each is worth 25,000 metal. Workers stack: a Worker leading a system fields at least two Angels in one army. Security only stacks when guarding the boss or contesting a system as a rival faction. Cluster's AI tech reaches every one of its structures, so a deep Cluster system is a fortress.
When you play Cluster, your Sub Commanders are Angels and Colonels rather than Commanders, and you cannot build either unit. Cluster players are locked to MLA. An enemy Cluster can be any race; a Cluster of another race is an ordinary faction with that race's Commanders.
A known base-game bug shows enemy Workers and Security with the Angel and Colonel icons rather than commander icons.
Each boss system carries one of five lore passages for its faction. One per faction:
-
Legonis Machina: "The goal of the Legionis Machina is simple--conquest. Invictus is the designated ruler of the galaxy, and any commanders disobeying this directive are faulty."
-
Foundation: "Nemicus was the first commander to ever reactivate, and had plenty of time for introspection before encountering others. This soon prompted Nemicus to begin wondering why he existed in the first place."
-
Synchronous: "All commanders were originally designed to be autonomous, but The Synchronous see this state as inefficient, instead opting for a distributed neural network. To battle against one Servant is to battle against both an individual and the Whole of the The Synchronous itself."
-
Revenants: "Osiris has always lead a solitary existence. He was always more interested in the parts of his fellow commanders than the commanders themselves. With every battle won he would take the best pieces left of the broken adversary and integrate them into his form. Osiris is considered one of the most dangerous forces in the galaxy."
-
Cluster: "We do not understand the divisions that have torn us asunder. Once we were as one, marching in lockstep, with singular mind and purpose. What cruelty the Progenitors wrought to reduce us to this."
