Hardware Rig Class
Transceivers with CAT or PTT control — one shared rigctld for every program
Amateur transceivers as a family: a radio reached over CAT (computer-aided transceiver control) through a serial port, or a radio with no CAT at all that is keyed by a serial control line through an interface. One class because what Linux needs — serial access through dialout and a stable port path — is the same for all of them, and the radio-specific detail (hamlib model, port, speed, how it is keyed) lives in each radio's own manifest.
Join dialout and log out and back in — group membership does not reach a session already open. Say which radio is on the station with hammunition station set --rig <device> --rig-device <by-id path> --rig-baud <rate>, then install the rig-service unit (it ships in the station profile). There is no udev rule to write: /dev/serial/by-id/ already names the port.
