Combat page

Starting combat

Select a nearby zombie or hostile NPC, open Combat, or use the quick melee/ranged buttons when a valid target is nearby. The combat page provides Attack Nearby Zombies, Reload Weapon, Use Grenade, and Flee Combat.

Melee attacks

  • Move close to the target; melee attacks have a short range.
  • The game shows the selected target, weapon, and estimated hit chance before confirmation.
  • Better weapons and higher rarity improve the chance of success.
  • A failed melee attack can alert the zombie and make it chase you.
  • With no melee weapon equipped, the player uses fists.

Ranged attacks

A ranged attack needs all of the following:

  • A ranged weapon
  • Matching ammunition in inventory
  • A target inside the weapon's effective range
  • Clear line of sight; buildings block shots

The combat UI shows distance, ammunition, accuracy, range, and calculated hit chance. Accuracy falls as the target approaches the weapon's maximum range. Reload when required and keep spare matching ammunition.

Dodging and enemy attacks

When an incoming attack offers the DODGE reaction, timing matters. Pressing too early fails. Combat effects on the map show damage, health bars, misses, and successful dodges.

Damage, armor, and injuries

Armor absorbs part of incoming damage before HP is reduced. Hits are assigned to body parts; head, neck, and torso injuries are especially dangerous. Damage can cause bleeding, fractures, infection risk, burns, internal bleeding, or zombie bites.

Open Equipment & Health after combat and tap affected body parts. See Health and Medical Care.

NPC combat

Hostile NPCs and zombies can fight the player or each other. Raiders patrol, chase, attack, search for lost targets, and may flee at low health. Friendly survivors can follow you and use defensive or offensive combat behavior.

Combat checklist

  • Equip armor and a primary/secondary weapon.
  • Check ammo type and quantity.
  • Avoid firing through buildings.
  • Fight inside effective range, but keep distance from melee enemies.
  • Carry bandages and disinfectant.
  • Flee when wounded, outnumbered, out of ammunition, or overloaded.
