NPCs, Survivors and Traders

Trader

NPC factions

The world contains hostile, neutral, friendly, raider, and trader NPCs. NPCs have their own health, injuries, food, water, energy, inventory, equipment, home, goals, and personality traits. They navigate the world, loot buildings, store supplies, defend themselves, heal, trade, and sleep.

Hostile NPCs can attack the player and raid houses. Neutral NPCs are not normal combat targets. Traders provide commerce. Friendly survivors can join your settlement.

Inspecting an NPC

Tap an NPC marker or use Talk to NPC. Depending on the NPC, pages may show:

  • Inventory and carry weight
  • Equipment
  • Health and injuries
  • Current food, water, and energy
  • Behavior and current goals
  • Available actions
  • Character traits such as bravery, diligence, and need for rest

NPCs manage their own gear. Friendly survivors can receive transferred items.

Recruiting survivors

Survivor Rescue events can create a recruitable friendly survivor. To recruit one, you need a claimed house with a free resident slot. Once assigned, the survivor lives there, loots the area, and stores supplies for the settlement.

Friendly survivors can be renamed and ordered to:

  • Resume normal duties
  • Follow the player
  • Use a defensive stance: stay close and attack nearby threats
  • Use an offensive stance: engage nearby enemies but return before moving too far away
  • Sell surplus supplies automatically while keeping essential food, water, and equipment

Traders

The Trader page is available when you are at home/safezone or close to a traveling trader. Traders include general supplies, weapons, equipment, furniture, weapon parts, vehicles/vehicle parts, and specialist stock.

Use search and category filters to find items. Buying removes funds and adds the item if capacity and any special placement requirements are satisfied. Selling converts unwanted inventory into funds. Vehicle purchases require selecting a highlighted road for the initial spawn.

The traveling trader changes location over time. Friendly survivors with autonomous trading enabled can carry surplus items there and bring the proceeds home.
