EMLO Edit Feedback
- EMLO-Edit-New doesn’t mention EMLO, or explain it is EMLO-Edit, or show the EMLO Edit logo.
- We need the ability to open (edit form) in new tabs (e.g. edit person/place) so we can refer alongside to the original search result list - From search, view...
- Need functionality to merge in search, once search is working well.
-
It should be a powerful search tool where it is easy to sort and sift results just as much, if not more, than a data input platform.
-
Sorting results should have more options (in the search form)
-
Most usually for people we would like to search by person name and have the results displayed in alphabetical order. (Default sort alphabetical order of name)
-
Terminology: we would like to change these in EMLO-Edit-New. E.g. FOAF [friend of a friend?] isn’t helpful (change label to what is needed)
-
EMLO-Edit-New comes with a pre-loaded search and we aren’t able to clear this. EMLO-Edit-Old comes with no default loaded search. (start with empty result set)
-
Searching, e.g. in places/people, seems to be case sensitive. We need the fields not to be case sensitive, please.
-
Search terms: we almost always search by name, or variant of the name, rather than the ID.
-
We will need to get the search options to work for ‘starts with’, ‘contains’, ‘does not contain’, etc. working in every search field.
-
Under ‘advanced search’ for people in EMLO-Edit-Old, we have many different ways of searching (starts with, contains, does not contain, etc.) and in any combination of options, including date limits (which we have in the new version), number of letters sent/received, related resources., e.g.
-
Although we can search by date and who has made a change, it is not nearly as easy as in EMLO-Edit-Old, because we’re having to use a ‘calendar’ box or click into defined spaces to add date numbers, rather than just type 11/10/2022 (which when entered once predict type auto-suggests the next time) and it’s very quick. (remove date picker and make it an edit box).
-
Need button to clear search form (and start new search)
-
The search in EMLO-Edit-New, the ‘FOAF’ name does not draw on the synonyms or occupations/roles field in addition to the primary name. It is important that it is able to do this for the purpose of editing and for reconciliation and de-duplication.
-
When skimming to edit/compare records, it’s easy to lose your place in the EMLO-Edit-New because it does not have the lines to separate the columns. The lines (spreadsheet-like) in EMLO-Edit-Old, have been very helpful to keep your place and not get lost, and, if possible, we would like them to be reinistated. (Add cell borders)
-
In the compact view of EMLO-Edit-New, we do not see the birth/death/floruit dates, and we need these. They should be in separate columns.
-
The birth dates are not showing through in the EMLO-Edit-New expanded view.
-
At present in EMLO-Edit-New, the synonyms do not appear in the expanded view.
-
Need roles or titles displayed in the search results.
-
In the expanded search view, we need to be able to see the Gender field
-
what we have now in EMLO-Edit-New is the option of two views, neither of which gives us all that we need. (Make sure the information in the compact and expanded views match Old EMLO Edit)
- We find it hard to work with the new toggling system between compact and expanded. We need to be able to work in a screen where we have a view of everything in one screen across different people, depending on our search, so we are able to compare and edit.
-
Feedback from our meeting(s)
- Each field in each column
- No hidden arrows (expand them all if they exist, with button to hide all expanded in the column header)
- Javascript to make header row sticky, hide columns, have borders for every cell (and maybe sort columns, though sort on search is preferred. )
- search form on the left should be pre-filled with search values on a search results page, so they can build on the search.
- Need current search criteria and sort to be displayed on the top, above the search results.
-
It would be good to improve the signage in EMLO-Edit-New so it’s clear we’re working in an add new person form rather than in an edit person form, e.g. in EMLO-Edit-Old
-
There should be the Related resources and Images sections in the Table of content, once it has been saved and opened up.
-
Please can the submit/save box be in another colour so we can distinguish it easily.
-
We would like the option either to save and ‘stay at that place to continue’ or to ‘return to the top of the page’.
-
Related resources are not working in the person records (they don’t save in add new person). We need to be able to add multiple related resources (save and add new one)
-
Also, in EMLO-Edit-Old, in the related resource section of the edit person record we have a listing of the existing related resources, so it’s easy to see at a glance.
-
(We need to improve our UI to make this clear. Use fieldsets and css)
-
-
In EMLO-Edit-Old, when we edit a record, it opens in a new (browser) tab. We make the change, we save, we ask it to refresh and it goes to the original search results and updates then so we can check the change. We have got used to the review stage of the changes made, and it is useful.
- The Add organization button is not working properly. In EMLO-Edit-Old, there is the ability to add an organization /group by ticking the relevant box, which then opens up the ‘type of organization’, and the foundation/end of operation boxes for dates, etc.
- The add relationships section, etc. is not working.
- Alternative names for place isn’t working. We need to be able to add synonyms on separate lines and to have the box able to expand accordingly.
- When they add the abstract in the other box, they will sometimes copy how it appears in the card catalogue, with the line spaces to make it look exactly how it appeared in the letter. We need to preserve that and display as such in the UI (it does in old EMLO Edit) -- gathered from our meeting
- For the date field in search, should we assume dd/mm/yyyy format or should we have separate boxes for day, month, year?
