Interview with teachers

Summary

Interviews were conducted with three different high school teachers from different schools in order to gage whether and where the product could be incorporated into a classroom or school setting. This also gave a better insight as to whether they thought students would engage with a product like this to help target the product in a more effective manner. These interviews gave much more insight into how to target the product as well as how it could be included within a classroom. From the response it was determined that the product should be target at the younger years on high school as well as making it useable in an assembly setting.

1. senior grades 10-12

1. English

How diverse is your class? Are there students from different nationalities? and/or students with learning disabilities?

1. There are a number of students from different nationalities, I do come across a lot of students with learning disabilities especially because of the subject that I teach
2. It’s not too diverse in terms of nationality and I can’t really say to learning disability because I mainly teach PE
3. reasonably diverse, a lot of students from different ethnicities, only one or two with a learning disability

Do you have ethic lessons at your school? Ethics lessons referring to teaching morals, and emotions.

1. Sort of ethics is mainly covered in year level assembly there isn’t necessarily a dedicated class
2. Not really mainly covered in assembly
3. no not a particular ethics lesson but it gets brought up in school assemblies

Comparing the way schools curriculum caters to teaching ethics to the opinions you have. Do you believe there is much difference? How do they differ?

1. No difference schools often have air on the cautious side when it comes to these sort of things as not to offend students/ parents
2. Nah opinion is the same as the school
3. From what is said in assemblies my opinion doesn’t really differ but it is not like there is much depth into what is discussed

how do you teach empathy to your classroom kids?

1. This possibly come through more in the books we study and the subsequent analysis
2. Respect towards others especially if someone isn’t as good in a sport in PE
3. I mainly focus treating others the way you want to be treated and respecting other opinions

Do you think students would engage with the product?

1. Yes, but it really going to depend on the student and there are certainly some that wont engage at all
2. Yeah, girls will more than boys
3. Yes, but you are probably better targeting the younger years of high school as they are less likely talk back and be disruptive to this sort of exercise
