Finding people in the Analysts list

New in 4.0.0 · from #208 · System → Analysts

With a handful of analysts the plain list is all you need. With a few hundred, one long table is hard to work with. The bar above the list lets you search it, filter it, group it and split it into pages. It starts as the plain list you had before, so nothing changes until you choose something.

The controls

Control What it does
Search Matches name, username and email as you type. Several words must all match, in any order.
Group by Company, team, department, job title, status, administrator or sign-in method. Company only appears once you have more than one.
Then by A second level inside each group - company, then team, for example. Two levels is the limit.
Layout How the groups are shown - see below.
Sort Full name, username, or last sign-in (most recent first; never signed in at the bottom).
Per page All, or 25, 50 or 100 at a time. When the list is grouped, each group has its own pages.
Filters Company, team (including No team), status, administrator, sign-in method and Never signed in. The number on the button says how many are on, and Clear turns them all off.

Three layouts

Layout Good for
Collapsible tree Seeing every group and its count at a glance, and opening only the ones you need. Expand and Collapse open or close them all. Your first visit opens the first group.
Tabs One tab per group, the same tab bar as the settings screens. With a second level, each tab shows it as headed sections.
One page with a jump list Scrolling through everybody. Every group is on one page, with a list down the side that shows where you are and jumps to any group. On a phone the list becomes a dropdown.

While a search or filter is on, every group that still has matches opens, groups with no matches disappear, and each count reads 3 of 12.

Someone can be in more than one group

An analyst can be in several teams and can work in several companies, so grouping does not force them into one:

  • Grouped by team, an analyst in two teams appears under both, and both counts include them. Analysts in no team are under No team - worth checking, because they see every ticket department.
  • Grouped by company, the companies are every one the analyst can work in: their own, plus any a team gives them. A via team chip marks people who are only there because of a team. People who can reach every company are under All companies, and anyone who can reach none is under No companies.
  • Department and job title are the free-text fields from the analyst's profile. IT and it count as the same group. Anyone without one is under Not set.

Your layout is remembered

Grouping, layout, sort, page size, the status filter, the groups you left open and the tab you were on all come back next time, for you only. Search and the other filters start empty each visit.

Default gives you two choices:

  • Make this view the default for everyone - set the list up the way most people want it, then press this. Anyone who has never changed their own view gets it.
  • Go back to the default view - undoes your own changes and returns you to the install's default.

Hiding leavers. Deactivate is the usual way to handle someone leaving (When an analyst leaves), so inactive accounts build up. Set Status to Active only and it stays that way for you.

It is also quicker

The list used to ask the server for each analyst's teams one person at a time, so 200 analysts meant 200 requests before the table appeared. It now gets everything in one request.
