Installation

How to install C&N Claims, which files it creates, and what happens when you update it.

Requirements

  • Install on both server and client. The client draws the window, the map layer, the banner, the border grid and the markers.
  • Optional: C&N Economy. Without it everything is free and the land market is off. See Economy.
  • Optional: Boat Tags, only for Shared Boats.

Installing

  1. Put the C&N Claims zip into the Mods folder of the server.
  2. Players get it when they join, or put the same zip into their own Mods folder.
  3. Start the server.

Files

On first start these appear in the game's ModConfig folder (or in PATH_TO_DB_AND_JSON_FILES):

File Contents Edit by hand?
claims.json Main config. See Admin Guide. Yes, with the server stopped
claims.db SQLite database: cities, plots, players, sub-plots, wars… No, and never while the server runs
claims_permissions.json What everyone, mayors, alliance leaders and village heads may do. See Permissions and Ranks. Yes
city_level_info.json City levels: plots, summon points and extra plots per number of citizens. See Cities. Yes
alliance_level_info.json Alliance levels. See Alliances. Yes
claims_backups/ Automatic database backups, in the game's data folder. See Backups. —

On each client, claims_client.json keeps that player's display choices: banner, border grid, markers, plot panel.

Many settings can be changed live with /cadmin setcfg — see Admin Guide.

Updating

Make a backup first: /cadmin backup, or copy claims.db with the server stopped.

What an update does on its own:

  • Database. New tables and columns are added on start. Nothing has to be migrated by hand.
  • Permissions. CITY_SUBPLOT_MANAGE is added to the mayor group of an existing server. Other new permissions are not — grant them with /city rank addperm. A permissions file that cannot be read is copied to .bak and the defaults are used; unknown names in it are skipped with a log line.
  • Config. An existing claims.json keeps its values. A changed default reaches only servers that never set the key — for example DELETE_CITIZEN_FROM_CITY_IF_DOESN_PAY_FEE and BACKUP_KEEP_COUNT must be changed by hand on an old server if you want the new behaviour.
