Fuel

NavAid's fuel figures are part of the Flight Plan — there is no separate fuel calculator window.

What you set

Open 📋 Flight plan and use the Aircraft row at the top:

Field Meaning
Gallons per hour Cruise burn. Seeds from the defaultGph tuning key on first use.
Taxi and Takeoff (gal) A flat allowance added once, and only when the leg actually starts at an airfield.

Both persist per device under navaid.aircraft ({ gph, taxiGal }) and sync across your devices if Drive settings sync is on — see Settings and Persistence.

What NavAid computes

  • Per leg — leg time × gph, shown in the Flight Plan's Fuel column.
  • Route total — the sum of the legs, plus the taxi allowance when the route departs an airfield. This is the gal figure in the map's route summary and the plan's total row.
  • Return route — when Show return is on (off by default, see Toolbar), the return direction gets its own taxi allowance if it ends at an airfield.

Leg time is distance ÷ speed, so fuel follows the same rule: vertical speed never changes it (see Route and Legs). Entering a climb rate changes the profile picture, not the burn.

What NavAid does not do

Be clear about this before you plan on it:

  • No tank capacity, and no reserve check. NavAid will not tell you the route exceeds your endurance. Compare the total against your own aircraft's usable fuel and your reserve minimum yourself.
  • No aircraft presets (C172 / PA28 / SR22 etc.) — you enter the burn figure for the aircraft you are flying.
  • No fuel-type distinction (AvGas / Jet-A1) — the number is gallons, whatever you burn.
  • No taxi-in, run-up, or diversion allowance beyond the single taxi/takeoff figure.

Tips

  • Enter the burn from your own aircraft's POH at the power setting you actually plan to use, not the book optimum.
  • Fill in per-leg Speed honestly — a speed that is 10 kt optimistic makes the fuel figure optimistic by the same proportion.
  • Add your reserve mentally, or add a final leg back to your alternate so its fuel appears in the total.
