Tournament Dethrone the King
This format behaves similarly to Kachinuki, but it is aimed at sorting participants by repeatedly challenging the current king position. The tournament continues to establish a broader ranking order beyond first place. Its goal is also to give less experienced kendokas more matches against similarly leveled opponents.
The following example uses 5 teams, with draw resolution set to OLDEST_ELIMINATED (oldest team on shiaijo is
disqualified on draw).
| Initial team order |
|---|
| Team 1 |
| Fight | Pairing | Result | Eliminated | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Team 1 vs Team 2 | Team 1 wins | Team 2 | Team 1 remains |
| 2 | Team 1 vs Team 3 | Team 3 wins | Team 1 | Team 3 remains |
| 3 | Team 3 vs Team 4 | Team 3 wins | Team 4 | Team 3 remains |
| 4 | Team 3 vs Team 5 | Team 5 wins | Team 3 | Team 5 remains |
1st place: Team 5 (King)
Remaining teams: Team 2, Team 1, Team 4, Team 3
| Fight | Pairing | Result | Eliminated | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 | Team 2 vs Team 1 | Team 1 wins | Team 2 | Team 1 remains |
| 6 | Team 1 vs Team 4 | Team 4 wins | Team 1 | Team 4 remains |
| 7 | Team 4 vs Team 3 | Team 3 wins | Team 4 | Team 3 remains |
2nd place: Team 3
Remaining teams: Team 2, Team 1, Team 4
| Fight | Pairing | Result | Eliminated | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 8 | Team 2 vs Team 1 | Team 1 wins | Team 2 | Team 1 remains |
| 9 | Team 1 vs Team 4 | Team 4 wins | Team 1 | Team 4 remains |

| 10 | Team 2 vs Team 1 | Team 1 wins | Team 2 | Team 1 remains |
4th place: Team 1 5th place: Team 2 (last remaining)
| Position | Team |
|---|---|
| 1st | Team 5 |
| 2nd | Team 3 |
| 3rd | Team 4 |
| 4th | Team 1 |
| 5th | Team 2 |
This example illustrates how each phase establishes one position by having teams compete sequentially until one remains. Team 1 starts by defeating Team 2 but then loses to Team 3, and this relative order is propagated in later phases while remaining teams continue to be sorted.
When a draw occurs, you have the option to disqualify either the last team that entered the shiaijo or the first one. However, unlike the Kachinuki option, there must always be a declared winner.
