Repository & Updates

How to host mod releases so DV Mod Manager can detect and install updates automatically.

Option 1: GitHub Releases

The simplest approach. Set Repository in Info.json to your GitHub repository.json file as a raw URL:

{
  "Repository": "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/YourName/YourMod/refs/heads/main/repository.json"
}

Create a repository.json file in the root of your project.

{
  "Releases": [
    {
      "Id": "MyMod",
      "Version": "1.0.0",
      "DownloadUrl": "https://github.com/YourName/YourRepo/releases/download/v1.0.0/YourMod.zip"
    }
  ]
}

Create GithHub releases with .zip assets and version tag. The manager reads the releases.json, parses the version and downloads the newest release from the given URL.

Option 2: Nexus Mods

Set HomePage to the Nexus page URL:

{
  "HomePage": "https://www.nexusmods.com/derailvalley/mods/69420"
}

The manager queries the Nexus GraphQL API for version info but can't auto-download (the API doesn't provide direct URLs). It opens the Nexus page in the browser instead.

Ensure that your file uploads on Nexus actually set a new version for both the mod and file version for the update check to work correctly.

For the best experience, use GitHub Releases for updates and HomePage just as an informational link.
