Character Browser

The Character Browser is designed to make character assets easier to find and inspect.

It provides quick access to character meshes, variants and related textures.

Character Browser

1. Character list

The left panel displays the available character meshes found in the game files.

Each entry shows the mesh name and its internal game path.

Select a mesh to display its details and associated textures.

2. Search box

Use the search field to quickly filter the character list.

You can search by:

  • Character name
  • Mesh name
  • Partial file name

This is useful when browsing a large number of character meshes.

3. Selected mesh details

The selected mesh information is displayed at the top of the right panel.

Depending on the asset, this can include:

  • Mesh name
  • Number of sections
  • Render batch count
  • Bone count
  • Number of textures found

This gives a quick technical overview of the selected character mesh.

4. Mesh textures

The Mesh textures panel lists the textures associated with the selected mesh.

A character mesh may use one or several textures depending on its sections and materials.

Select a texture to preview it.

5. Texture preview

The selected texture is displayed in the preview area.

This makes it possible to inspect the texture before exporting or opening the mesh in the 3D Viewer.

6. Bottom actions

The bottom toolbar provides actions related to the selected texture and mesh.

Available actions may include:

  • Show in Explorer — open the texture location in Windows Explorer
  • Export PNG — export the selected texture to PNG
  • All textures — access all textures related to the mesh
  • Close — close the Character Browser

The bottom-left area also displays technical information about the selected texture, such as:

  • Texture name
  • Resolution
  • Compression format

7. View mesh in 3D

Click View mesh in 3D to open the selected character in the 3D Viewer.

From there, you can inspect:

  • Geometry
  • Mesh sections
  • Materials
  • UVs
  • Textures
  • Skeleton and bones

See 3D Viewer.

Animation compatibility

Character meshes can also be used with the animation compatibility system.

Getting Up Modding Tool can compare BNM animation data with mesh skeletons and identify compatible character meshes.

See Animation Preview (Experimental).
