Pendragon IDs
The Pendragon ID (PID) utilises the code developed by the team behind the Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition Foundry implementation and all credit goes to them.
Everyone (GM, assistant GM or Players) will see a "fingerprint" icon at the top right of most sheets in Foundry.
If the icon is red then a PID hasn't been set and you (or your GM) should resolve this straight away.
There are three parts of the PID
Document Header Type (e.g. "i" for item or "a" for actor). This is set automatically
Document Type (e.g. 'skill', 'character' although this can be blank in cases of tables, journals etc). This will be set automatically.
Keyword - this is what you need to set, although the wand icon next to the input box will auto populate it for you.
The PID will let the system identify what an item is, irrespective of what's its called. For example PID 'i.skill.firstaid' will tell the system that this is the First Aid Skill, even if you've called the skill 'Medicine'.
In addition you also set the game language (e.g. EN for English) and a Priority. When looking for a PID the system will return the document with the highest priority in your language.
There are a number of use cases for PIDs - but essentially it's a way of linking things and letting GMs create custom versions of items, actors etc without having to change the links.
For example an Encounter added to a Battle Sheet. The Battle doesn't store the Encounter it just stores the Encounter PID. When you open the Encounter from the Battle Sheet it will look for the best version of the encounter using the PID, language and Priority. This means you can create a custom version of the linked encounter with a higher priority (e.g. 99) and when using the Battle your encounter will be used in preference to the default one without the need to change the Battle itself.
You may want to have a custom version of the Awareness skill - duplicate the existing skill, make your modifications and then set the priority of the PID to a higher value than the current one. When creating new characters your custom version of the skill will be used. Items etc already on a character will not be replaced automaically though.
There are some PIDs that the system uses and shouldn't be changed
