Appearance & Overlay

The Appearance page controls how TypeWhisper looks and how the dictation overlay is laid out while you record.

Dictation overlay

The dictation overlay is configurable. You select which widgets appear while you dictate:

Widget What it shows
Indicator A recording indicator while dictation is active.
Waveform A live audio-level waveform visualization driven by your microphone input.
Text Transcribed text, including live partial-transcript text when a streaming-capable engine is active.

📸 Screenshot needed: The dictation overlay during an active recording, showing the Indicator, the live audio-level Waveform, and the Text widget together.

The live audio-level waveform reacts to your speech as you record, so you can confirm the microphone is picking you up.

For how these widgets behave during a recording — including live partial transcripts and token-by-token LLM streaming — see Dictation.
