Legality

PKForge runs PKHeX's legality checker on every Pokémon, on the device.

Reading the verdict

The summary and the inspector show ✓ Legal or the problem. The Legal page of the summary lists every check. For an illegal Pokémon, + > Explain legality opens a report with the failing checks first and a Fix all safe button.

The Moves page also tells you, move by move, whether it is legal and where it is learned.

Fixing

Where Action
Editor panel Legalize: finds the closest real, legal version of this Pokémon.
+ on an illegal Pokémon Legalize this one, Legalize all illegal.
Multi-select > Actions Legalize selection.
X > Legality check Checks the whole save: "All N Pokémon are legal", or the list.

Suggest buttons (moves, met data, ball, relearn moves) always show a preview first with the resulting verdict; you choose Apply.

Most ROM hacks have no legality data, so no verdict is shown for them (see ROM hacks).

HaX mode

Settings > Misc > HaX mode. Off by default. With HaX on, pickers offer every option (any ability, any move, species beyond the game's range) instead of only legal ones. Pokémon edited this way show as illegal and may not be accepted by the game or by online services.

Hardcore mode

Settings > Misc > Hardcore mode. For challenge runs and RetroAchievements players. In Hardcore:

  • Allowed: browsing, organising, moving Pokémon, sending them between games and to or from the Bank (as moves, not copies), restore points, exports.
  • Blocked: editing, generating, duplicating, injecting events. Those menu entries are hidden.
  • The status line reads HARDCORE MODE – data editing is off.
  • Restoring a restore point warns you when it would bring back a Pokémon you have since moved away (duplication).

Hardcore wins over HaX when both are on.
