What it does

Runs the service that applications use to talk to PC/SC smartcard readers and PIV tokens.

Why you would want it

It lets OpenSC and the SSH agent use a smartcard without each application claiming the reader.

Before it will work

A PC/SC reader or PIV token. Check pcscd with systemctl status pcscd; do not configure PAM.

How it installs

• apt: pcscd, libpcsclite1

Known problems

pcscd and libnfc can claim the same reader; stop the unused service when they conflict.

Keeping it current

• probe: apt policy
• strategy: apt_upgrade
