Assignments

  • Presenters: Beyza Nur Deniz, Muhammed Mustafa Öztürkmen, Furkan Kaan Biçer
  • Application Controller: Alper Vural
  • Note Taker: Enes Hamza Üstün
  • Timer: İbrahim İlter

Use Case Scenarios

1- Web

User Profile

Enes Hamza Üstün
Computer Engineering Student at Bogazici University
He takes HTR312 course this semester
His instructor gave him a project to study the cultural changes, including squatter (gecekondu) culture, of people moving from villages to cities. He plans to look for stories from the 1950s through the 1980s in chronological order in Istanbul.

Assumptions/Pre-conditions

  • Enes already has an account and is logged in.
  • There is already enough data for him to execute his examination.

Flow

  1. He opens the website via URL.
  2. He filters the dates between 1950s to 1980s
  3. He navigates to Çeliktepe on the map.
  4. He chooses a story and clicks on it.
  5. He sees a preview with a short paragraph and a photo but does not find it satisfying for his project.
  6. He proceeds to another story and clicks on that.
  7. He clicks the "Read Story" button.
  8. He scrolls through the story, reads it, and looks at the photos.

2- Mobile

User Profile

Yaşar Yılmaz
Construction Worker
Age: 65
He has been living in Çeliktepe since childhood.
The municipality has decided to carry out urban transformation in Çeliktepe. As a result, the house where Uncle Yaşar has lived since childhood will also be demolished. Feeling sad about this, Uncle Yaşar wants to share the stories of his life in this neighborhood — playing ball in the streets as a child, listening arabesque music and discussing politics with his friends as a young man. He also wants to upload the photos he took with his friends during those times.

Assumptions / Pre-conditions

  • Uncle Yaşar already has an account and is logged in.

Flow

  1. He opens the mobile app.
  2. He taps the "Share a Story" button at the bottom right corner.
  3. He enters a title and writes his story.
  4. He searches for Çeliktepe using the map’s search bar.
  5. He locates his old house on the map and taps it; a marker appears and the location field is auto-filled.
  6. Since the story lacks a specific date, he clicks "Specify a Date Range" and selects approximate start and end dates.
  7. He adds a photo by clicking "Choose From Files" under Add Media, selecting a picture with his friends from that time.
  8. He taps "Publish Story" and sees the notification "Successfully Published."
  9. He is redirected to the map page.
  10. He navigates to his old house and sees his story on the map.

Demo Structure & Script (8 Minutes)

Overview

This demo presents two user scenarios:

  • Web (Exploration): Researching cultural transformation
  • Mobile (Contribution): Sharing personal memories

Demo Timeline

Time Speaker(s) Section Talking Points (What is explained) Actions (Alper - Application Controller)
0:00–0:40 Furkan Introduction Introduce the platform, its purpose (cultural memory & migration), and briefly mention web and mobile flows. Keep homepage/map open
0:40–1:00 Mustafa Web – Setup Explain that the user is already logged in and will explore stories via the map interface. Ensure web app is open and ready
1:00–1:30 Mustafa Web – Filtering Explain filtering by decades (1950s–1980s) and its relevance to migration waves. Apply date filter
1:30–2:00 Furkan Web – Navigation Explain navigating to Çeliktepe and its importance as a gecekondu area. Zoom and move map to Çeliktepe
2:00–2:30 Mustafa Web – First Story Explain preview functionality and limitations (short text + image). Click a story → show preview
2:30–3:00 Furkan Web – Second Story Explain accessing full story details and richer content. Open another story → click "Read Story" → scroll
3:00–3:30 Mustafa & Furkan Web – Wrap-up Summarize benefits of web experience: exploration by time and location. Keep story view visible
3:30–4:00 Beyza Mobile – Setup Introduce Uncle Yaşar and his motivation (urban transformation, memory sharing). Switch to mobile app
4:00–4:30 Beyza Mobile – Start Story Explain starting the story creation process. Tap "Share a Story"
4:30–5:00 Beyza Mobile – Writing Explain entering story content and personal narrative. Type title and story
5:00–5:30 Beyza Mobile – Location Explain selecting a meaningful location on the map. Search and place marker
5:30–6:00 Beyza Mobile – Date Range Explain using approximate dates when exact ones are unavailable. Select date range
6:00–6:30 Beyza Mobile – Media Explain adding photos to enrich storytelling. Upload image
6:30–6:50 Beyza Mobile – Publish Explain publishing the story and system feedback. Tap publish → show success
6:50–7:10 Beyza Mobile – Result Explain how the story appears on the map after publishing. Show new story on map
7:10–7:40 Furkan Validation Explain cross-platform consistency (mobile input → web visibility). Switch to web → show story
7:40–8:00 Mustafa Closing Summarize system value: exploration + contribution + cultural preservation. Keep final map view

Notes

  • Application Controller (Alper Vural):
    • Synchronizes all UI actions with presenters’ explanations
    • For Uncle Yaşar's story section a pre-text should be prepared in order it to be copied quickly.
  • Timer (İbrahim İlter):
    • Keeps each section within time
  • Prepare backup screens for smooth transitions

Demo Data Strategy

User Roles

  • Explorer User (Web): Enes (pre-existing account)
    • Used to demonstrate browsing, filtering, and reading stories.
  • Contributor User (Mobile): Uncle Yaşar (pre-existing account)
    • Used to demonstrate story creation and publishing.

Pre-populated Data

  • The system contains multiple historical stories located in Istanbul.
  • Stories are distributed across different decades (1950s–1980s) to support filtering.
  • Several stories are already pinned in Çeliktepe, representing gecekondu culture and migration narratives.
  • Each story includes:
    • Title
    • Short preview text
    • Full story content
    • At least one image

This allows immediate demonstration of:

  • Map-based exploration
  • Story preview vs full content
  • Chronological filtering

Scenario-Specific Data

  • At least two stories in Çeliktepe:
    • One with limited preview content (to show insufficiency)
    • One with rich content (to demonstrate full reading experience)
  • These are used in the web flow to compare preview vs detailed story.

Demo-Created Data

  • During the mobile demo:
    • A new story is created by Uncle Yaşar
    • Includes:
      • Title and narrative about childhood memories
      • Location pinned in Çeliktepe
      • Approximate date range (e.g., 1960s–1970s)
      • One uploaded image
  • This story is immediately visible on the map after publishing.

Cross-Platform Consistency

  • The newly created story (mobile) is also visible in the web interface.
  • This demonstrates:
    • Real-time or near real-time data synchronization
    • Shared backend between platforms

Edge Case Data

  • Stories with approximate date ranges instead of exact dates
    • Used to demonstrate flexible filtering
  • Stories with minimal preview content
    • Used to justify clicking into full story view
