Dock Screen

Dckiller edited this page Oct 15, 2026 · 1 revision

What the remote shows while it sits on its charging dock. Set it in builder › 4. Dock screen, or on the remote in Settings › Display › Dock screen. Both write the same setting. (Since 1.2.4)

The three modes

Mode What you see
Charging (default) The battery screen, dimmed after a while. What Astrion always did.
Clock The dashboard stays usable. Left untouched, it gives way to a dim clock you can read from across the room.
Dashboard The dashboard only, dimmed when untouched.

In Clock and Dashboard, any touch or key brings the full dashboard back, and so does lifting the remote off the dock.

The clock

Black and quiet: a big thin clock, then a line with the date, the weather and the battery. A small now playing block (artwork, title, artist) appears at the bottom only while something plays.

  • At night, every colour turns a dim amber.
  • The whole face moves a few pixels each minute, so no pixel stays lit in the same place all night.

Settings (builder › 4. Dock screen)

Setting Default What it does
Mode Charging See above.
Idle time before dimming / clock 15 s (charging), 30 s (clock), 60 s (dashboard) How long without a touch before it dims or shows the clock.
Brightness when idle, day 20 % Backlight while dimmed or on the clock, by day…
Night 5 % …and at night: when sun.sun is below the horizon, or 21:00 to 07:00 without Home Assistant.
Time format like the remote 12 h or 24 h.
Weather none A weather.* entity for the clock.
Show the battery level on On the clock line.
Room of this remote (1.2.8) none See Now playing below.
Now playing from any player Which media players the clock may show. None ticked = any one that is playing.

The settings below the mode only appear for the modes that use them.

Now playing: which player? (1.2.8)

The clock picks what to show in this order:

  1. The Activity running in this remote's room (Room of this remote): its own player. It's set in the Activity wizard's last step (Now playing on the dock clock), or found automatically for a directly paired Apple TV. If that player isn't playing, nothing is shown: the bedroom remote never shows the living room's movie.
  2. No room set: the same, for the only running Activity when there's just one.
  3. Otherwise, the ticked players: one that is playing first, else one that is paused.
  4. Nothing ticked: any media player that is playing.

See Activities and Several remotes.

Good to know

  • Docking takes a few seconds to count (5 s by default, Dock detection delay in Standby & battery). A remote put down crooked doesn't flicker between screens. Lifting it off counts at once.
  • On the dock, the remote stays fully connected: no quiet mode, and motion never wakes it there. It's charging anyway.
  • The clock needs the Clock mode and the idle time to pass. Touch the screen to get the dashboard back.
