Find My Remote

Lost the remote in the sofa? Make it ring.

The remote plays its own ringtone, alarm or notification sound, on loop, at the volume you choose, even if its screen is off. The screen lights up with a "Found me!" message. Touch the screen or press any key to stop it.

From the remote's web page

http://<remote-ip>:8080 › Find my remote: pick the sound, the volume (%) and the duration (seconds), then Ring. Stop ends it early.

From Home Assistant

With the integration:

  • the Find my remote button of the remote's device rings it with the default sound;
  • the astrion.ring service lets you choose:
service: astrion.ring
data:
sound: alarm # ringtone | alarm | notification
  volume: 90 # 1-100 %
  duration: 20 # 1-60 s
device_id: abc123 # optional: omit to ring every remote

Idea: a button on your Home Assistant dashboard, or a voice assistant command ("Where's the remote?").

Test it

On the remote: Settings › Sound & touch › Test "Find my remote".

Good to know

  • It works with the screen off and in quiet mode (see Standby & battery): nothing to add to Entities kept live.
  • The remote must be on Wi-Fi with some battery left, of course 🙂
  • Several remotes: omit device_id to ring them all, or pick one.
