Edible Crabs are coastal crustaceans found in ocean biomes. There are 4 species.

Behavior

Movement

Edible Crabs walk along the ground and are not pushed by water currents. They can breathe underwater indefinitely but will slowly suffocate on land, taking 2 damage every time their air runs out. Baby crabs follow their parents.

Threat Display

When a non-crouching player comes within 2 blocks, an adult Edible Crab will stop moving, face the player, and enter a defensive threat pose with claws raised. They will hold this pose as long as the player remains nearby within 4 blocks. They will not enter the threat pose if they already have a combat target.

Aggression

Edible Crabs are otherwise timid and will avoid players within 6 blocks. If hurt, they will retaliate but only strike once before disengaging.

Breeding

Edible Crabs can be bred with raw shrimp. Offspring inherit the parent's species variant.

Spawn

Edible Crabs spawn in water in ocean and coastal biomes.

Each species has its own unique loot table.

Sexual Dimorphism

Females and males have different undersides. The females have a larger "flap" (left) while the males have a narrower one (right).
