The Field Guide is an item used to discover and catalog all animals added by Frikinzi's Fauna. Right-clicking any creature with the guide in hand will discover it and record it in your guide.

Obtaining

The Field Guide can be crafted as follows (1 duck feather and 1 book):

Duck feathers are dropped passively from wild ducks, mandarin ducks, or wood ducks.

Usage

Right-click any Frikinzi's Fauna creature with the Field Guide in hand to register/discover it. You can also right-click with it in an empty area to open the guide interface. Each new discovery awards 10 XP and shows a chat message with the species name and gender.

Animals can also be discovered by:

• Looking at them through a spyglass while the guide is anywhere in your inventory
• Reeling in a fish while the guide is in your inventory

Interface

Main Page

The main page shows your overall discovery progress. Use the ◀ ▶ buttons to browse species, or use the buttons below to filter by region or IUCN status.

Species Grid

Each page shows a grid of the mod's animals, where discovered animals are visible. Click on an animal to view its variants. Undiscovered animals appear as grey ? tiles.

Variant Screen

Shows all variants of an animal. Clicking a variant opens the detail screen. A progress bar at the bottom tracks how many variants you have found.

Discovering all variants of an animal earns you an achievement.

Detail Screen

Shows the full profile of a variant including its common name, scientific name, IUCN conservation status, region, food, and a fun fact. Both sexes are shown side by side if discovered. The baby is also displayed.

Daily Quiz

Once per in-game day a quiz with 5 questions is available from the main page.

The questions range from animal identification based on an image/sound, and basic ornithology/evolution/ecology questions. Each question you answer correct will award you XP.
