Leadership and the Art of Growing Up

The question that makes people cry: How are you?

  • we don't usually answer this honestly
  • when someone really wants to know, it's radical

Why do we lose our way?

We all too often use work to disappear into the fire.

When people refuse to sort their childhood baggage and take on power, they'll often twist their organizations to serve their unconscious needs.

We can use the journey of leadership to become the adults we were born to be.

^ To do this, you have to understand the why of your leadership

The Reboot Bet

Practical skills development + radical self-inquiry + shared experiences = Enhanced leadership + Greater resiliency

Radical self-inquiry: process by which self-deception becomes so skillfully and compassionately exposted that there's no mask that can hide us anymore.

Conscious humans are better humans. Better humans are better leaders.

The technical debt from the subroutines of our childhood... ?

That debt can be the source of our strength

Leading people well is hard because it requires that we grow up.

Questions to Consider on Your Journey

  • What kind of organization do you want to work for?
  • How would you feel if your children came to work for your organization?
  • What has it cost you to have your life?
  • Who has paid the cost?
  • What kind of leader are you meant to be?
  • What kind of adult are you becoming?
