Menu: Automatic
- AUTOmatic - (Option 2): Automatically Perform All Steps Needed
-
Overview: A hands-off maintenance sequence: DBRepair stops Plex Media Server if it's running and stoppable, checks both the main and blobs databases, and — only if either database shows structural damage, search index damage, fragmentation, or bloat (see Deflate) — rebuilds both as a matched pair using the same pipeline as
Repair(schema, search tables, triggers, data, indexes). If both databases are already healthy, Automatic reports so and does nothing further. Once finished, it restarts Plex Media Server (if it had been running) and waits up to 60 seconds to confirm it comes back up. -
Availability: If Plex Media Server is running and your host has no start/stop control, Automatic refuses to proceed rather than operate on live database files. Automatic also needs enough free disk space for the working copies; it checks first and stops before touching Plex Media Server if there isn't enough.
-
Technical quirks & behavior: Automatic does not unconditionally roll back on every failure. Most failures (a failed check, a failed rebuild step) simply discard the unpromoted working copies — your active databases are untouched, so there is nothing to revert. The one case where DBRepair does automatically call Revert is narrower and more serious. If the rebuilt databases were already promoted to active successfully but Plex Media Server then failed to restart afterward then revert is automatic. In this case, DBRepair automatically reverts the promoted databases back to their prior state and reports the failure rather than leave you with a live server pointed at a database it can't currently prove is working end-to-end.
- If either database has unrecoverable damage (SQLite internal data tables are unreadable), Automatic stops without rebuilding and tells you to use
Replace(see Replace).

Safety status: Safe — After making changes, the automatic promotion step only occurs after both databases pass a full integrity check.
