Data Security

Last Updated: March 28, 2026

This Data Security Policy explains how FarmPath protects user data and the responsibilities shared between Crawford Family Farm ("Company") and users of the FarmPath application ("App").

This document supplements:

  • Privacy Policy
  • Terms of Service
  • Data Governance Policy

1. Security Philosophy

FarmPath is designed around a local-first security model.

This means:

  • Most data remains on user devices
  • Optional cloud sync is user controlled
  • We minimize centralized storage

Our security approach focuses on:

  • Reducing exposure
  • Limiting collection
  • Leveraging platform security
  • Giving users control

2. Types of Data Protected

FarmPath may store:

  • Farm operational data
  • Financial records
  • Animal records
  • Equipment records
  • Mapping data
  • Maintenance records
  • User notes

This data is treated as user-owned operational data.

3. Security Measures

FarmPath relies on platform security protections including:

  • Operating system sandboxing
  • Device storage protections
  • Apple platform encryption
  • CloudKit encryption protections
  • Secure API communication

These protections are managed by Apple and the device operating system.

4. Cloud Security (Apple CloudKit)

If enabled:

FarmPath uses Apple CloudKit infrastructure.

Apple provides:

  • Encryption in transit
  • Encryption at rest
  • Identity management
  • Infrastructure security

FarmPath does not manage CloudKit infrastructure directly.

Users should review Apple's security documentation.

5. Local Device Security

Data stored locally depends on device security.

Users must protect:

  • Device passcodes
  • Biometric security
  • Apple ID credentials
  • Physical device access

FarmPath cannot protect data on compromised devices.

6. Data Transmission Security

When data is transmitted:

Platform networking protections apply.

Transmission security depends on:

  • Apple security protocols
  • Internet providers
  • Device security

We do not control all network risks.

7. User Security Responsibilities

Users are responsible for:

  • Protecting devices
  • Protecting Apple accounts
  • Managing shared access
  • Maintaining backups
  • Controlling physical access

Users should:

  • Enable device passcodes
  • Use biometric locks
  • Avoid sharing Apple accounts
  • Secure exported data

8. Shared Data Risks

If users share farm data:

Authorized users may:

  • View data
  • Edit data
  • Delete data

FarmPath cannot control behavior of authorized users.

Users assume responsibility for sharing decisions.

9. Sync Risks

Synchronization may create risks including:

  • Data conflicts
  • Timing conflicts
  • Version overwrites
  • Deletion conflicts

FarmPath does not guarantee preservation of all data versions.

Users should verify data after syncing.

10. Backup Security

FarmPath may provide export features.

Exported data becomes user responsibility.

Users should:

  • Secure backup files
  • Store backups safely
  • Control backup access

We are not responsible for unsecured user backups.

11. Data Breach Risk Disclosure

No software system is completely secure.

Risks may include:

  • Device compromise
  • Operating system vulnerabilities
  • Cloud provider incidents
  • Internet threats

FarmPath cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Security Incident Response

If we become aware of a security issue we may:

  • Investigate the issue
  • Attempt mitigation
  • Improve protections
  • Notify users if required by law

FarmPath architecture minimizes centralized data exposure.

13. Financial Data Security Disclaimer

FarmPath may store financial records.

Users must:

  • Protect financial data
  • Verify financial records
  • Secure device access

FarmPath does not validate accounting security practices.

14. GPS Data Security

Location data is used only for App functionality.

Location risks include:

  • Device compromise
  • User sharing
  • Third party map providers

Users may disable location access.

15. Third Party Security Dependencies

FarmPath depends on third party platforms including:

  • Apple infrastructure
  • Device operating systems
  • Internet providers
  • Mapping services

We are not responsible for failures of third party security systems.

16. No Security Guarantees

FarmPath provides reasonable safeguards but does not guarantee:

  • Absolute security
  • Prevention of all breaches
  • Prevention of device compromise
  • Prevention of data loss

Users accept inherent risks of software use.

17. Business Continuity Disclaimer

FarmPath is not a disaster recovery system.

Users must maintain independent business records.

FarmPath should not be the sole storage of critical data.

18. Data Integrity Limitations

We cannot guarantee:

  • Data accuracy
  • Data completeness
  • Data preservation
  • Sync integrity

Users must verify records regularly.

19. Future Security Improvements

FarmPath may improve security over time including:

  • Improved encryption
  • Additional protections
  • Enhanced authentication

Security improvements may be implemented without notice.

20. User Best Practices

We recommend users:

  • Enable device lock screens
  • Use strong Apple ID passwords
  • Enable two-factor authentication
  • Regularly export backups
  • Verify important records
  • Avoid sharing login access

These practices significantly improve security.

21. Changes to Security Policy

We may update this policy.

Changes will be reflected by the Last Updated date.
