Meeting notes from chat with Heather Nguyen, a PM at Walmart.

- Walmart β known as the largest grocery market in the US
- 90 percent of the US population lives within 20 minutes of a store
- Needs to know Walmart offers other things as well β Amazon
- βSandy Parkβ β friend at Walmary in product also a stanford alum who handles API integration for marketplace β Heather sent you there
- βWhat I would like to see β convert you to other items from groceryβ
- When customer searches for something β the right thing doesnβt come up
- Weβre asking the customer to do something β we already have all of the data
- When I think about e-commerce β itβs a very fast world
- Focus on a vertical and get them excited rather than being too vast
- βHey, I have an AI that is very good for air purifierβ
- General ecommerce person less likely to reply to you than category director
- Role - PM on marketplace, responsible for building up marketplace platform, focusing for seller, seller experience, integrate sellers with platform
- Walmart marketplace is strategic initiative
- Search - for her, marketplace is very dated, even for seller experience, seller cares that when they upload their item it has content and discoverability,
- problem is when customer searched for product, when new seller uploads their product, it ends up on later pages (insignificant in algorithm?)
- Make sure offer is relevant to customer, (sometimes care about price, some fulfillment, ect.)
- In order to get answer within internal documents, have to search on confluence
- AI opportunities - sellers are not happy with how walmart handles complaints (considerable delay), AI trained on forums to solve seller problems
- How to spend time more effectively - write product requirement description, already uses AI service to write PRD
- If we have the historical data that Walmart has, why do we even need to search at all? (can we prompt the user immediately based on their history/seasonality)
- Walmart known for largest grocer provider, 90% of US pop live 10-20 miles from walmart,
- Trying to let people know that they provide other things as well (when people go online to shop, they go to walmart)
- Convert grocery shoppers to purchasers of other products (not stuck at search, but stuck at the part before the search, where the customer doesnβt even think to search for that at walmart
- If we go into walmart and tell walmart that we have AI for air purifier, if we can go to a category head and make their life easier
- Sandy park, API integration for marketplace, prada, very technical
