Notes from meeting with Sandy Park, PM at Walmart.
- Walmart marketplace, product manager, pure ecommerce arm within walmart. Lots of investment into ecommerce right now, sellers use .com real estate, enabling multi-channel sale for merchants, merchants want to sell anywhere and everywhere, trying to help merchants thrive and enable multi-channel sales through third party apps, (e.x. reflect products sold on walmart site on other platforms), API integrations.
- Search
- Doesnβt have full visibility from search, within target had metrics to measure where users came from,
- Developer ecosystem,
- A lot for AI in terms of picking APIs, getting merchants to utilize walmart APIs, trying to guide the customer to checkout and presenting them with options that lead them, struggle for big companies is with growing counts of products.
- Perceived as a higher conversion play
- Is it a customer experience play, where our search experience is different from what already exists and is much more interactive, or is it a conversion play, where our algorithm can visibly convert more searches and more users
- E-Commerce companies experiencing widespread traffic decrease⦠probably as a result of ChatGPT, Perplexity, other things
- Search is a tough technical problem: very rules-based, lots of ML, but has a lot of different βbucketsβ (I believe what she called it). So we have to decide whether we want to replace the E2E experience or just replace a certain part of it
- Mainly just thinking about GTM/what the ICP is. Big companies with teams that focus on search? Probably not the best play (unless we angle it based on discovery, of course). But smaller E-Commerce companies? Might be a better targetβ¦
