Discussions & attachments

Every record in Studio (a requirement, a diagram, a Development, a change request, a test execution, a QA issue, a project, a task, an article…) has a Discussion: a place to talk about it and to attach files. If you've used Odoo, it's the chatter.

The discussion panel

Where it is

On wide screens, the discussion sits in a panel on the right of the record, and stays in view while you scroll. On smaller screens it moves below the record.

Posting

  • Write a message with formatting, links and even [[CODE]] links to other records (see Knowledge base).
  • Attach files: screenshots, logs, PDFs, spreadsheets, BPMN or PlantUML files, videos…
  • A post can be just files, no message needed.
  • Reply to a specific message to keep conversations threaded.
  • Edit or delete your own messages.

Attachments

Above the discussion, Attachments lists every file posted on the record, newest first, with its size, who posted it and when. Click to download.

Files are stored in the private file system: only people who can see the record can download them. A file link shared with someone outside the Development simply won't open for them.

Who can do what

Permission Allows
Access comments Read discussions (on records you can see).
Post comments Write messages and attach files.
Edit own comments Fix your own messages.
Administer comments Moderate everyone's messages (Studio Manager).

Good to know

  • Discussions on completed test runs stay open: you can still comment on historical evidence, you just can't change it.
  • When a new artifact type is created, it gets its discussion automatically.
  • Task comments are the same discussion, with attachments too.
