Filament Profiles

Filament profiles store the material settings used most often for a printer. They help keep temperature, cooling, retraction, and flow choices consistent across prints.

What a Profile Stores

  • Material type: PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, PC, Nylon, ASA, or Other.
  • Color swatch for dashboards and printer cards.
  • Nozzle, bed, and chamber temperature targets.
  • Fan speed.
  • Retraction distance and speed.
  • Flow percentage.
  • Free-text notes for brand, drying, batch behavior, or tuning reminders.

Material Defaults

Material Typical start
PLA 210 C nozzle, 60 C bed, fan 100%, 0.8 mm retraction
PETG 235 C nozzle, 75 C bed, fan 50%, 1.2 mm retraction
ABS 245 C nozzle, 100 C bed, 45 C chamber, fan 20%, 1.0 mm retraction
TPU 225 C nozzle, 50 C bed, fan 60%, 0.4 mm retraction
PC 280 C nozzle, 110 C bed, 60 C chamber, fan off, 1.0 mm retraction

These are starting points. Tune by filament brand, nozzle, hotend, enclosure, and printer motion system.

Default Profile

The starred profile is the default for dashboard filament-change workflows. Keep one conservative default per printer, and create variants for different nozzle diameters, brands, or hotend setups.

Relationship to Prepare

Prepare uses both printer and material context. The printer profile defines machine limits and G-code flavor; the filament profile defines material behavior.
