Prepare Profiles and Printer Creation

The Prepare ribbon keeps machine and material choices close to the slicing controls. Use the profile buttons before slicing so the build volume, start/end G-code, firmware flavor, and filament assumptions match the target printer.

Profile Buttons

The Profiles group shows the active printer profile and active filament profile. After creating a new printer, the ribbon updates immediately so the selected machine is visible before slicing.

Open Printer Profiles

Click the printer profile button in the Prepare ribbon to open the profile editor. The dialog lists built-in and custom machines on the left, with the selected profile's machine settings on the right.

Profiles include:

  • Build volume width, depth, and height
  • Rectangular or elliptic build plate shape
  • Origin and heated bed/build-volume options
  • Firmware or G-code flavor
  • Printhead clearance and gantry height
  • Extruder count and extruder-offset behavior
  • Start and end G-code

Add a Printer

Use Add Printer at the bottom of the profile list to create a new machine profile. Enter a profile name, optionally import a Duet config.g, then choose Create.

The Duet import button is useful when a printer already has machine dimensions and firmware settings in config.g; otherwise, create the profile manually and edit the fields after it appears in the list.

Created Printer Profile

After creation, the new profile appears in the profile list and becomes the active printer. The editor switches to that profile's settings so the build volume, firmware flavor, and G-code blocks can be reviewed before slicing.

The left profile list is also where profiles can be selected or removed.

Recommended Setup Checklist

Before using a new printer profile for real jobs:

  • Confirm X, Y, and Z build-volume dimensions.
  • Match the build plate shape and origin behavior to the firmware.
  • Select the correct G-code flavor for Marlin, Klipper, Duet/RRF, or another firmware.
  • Verify gantry height and printhead clearance if printing multiple objects sequentially.
  • Check start and end G-code for homing, bed leveling, purge, shutdown, and park moves.
  • Review the active filament profile before slicing.
