Read this before using Karta. By using Karta you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it.

1. No warranty

Karta is free, open-source software provided "as is", without any warranty, express or implied. There is no warranty that it is fit for any purpose, works without errors or interruptions, is secure, or complies with the law. Sections 15 and 16 of the AGPL-3.0 license also apply.

2. Not official software

Karta is not affiliated with the Ministry of Labour, Ergani, the Labour Inspectorate or any other public authority. No authority has certified or approved it. "Ergani", "Cloudflare", "Google Drive" and so on belong to their owners. They are named only to describe what the app connects to.

3. The employer is responsible for legal compliance

You, as the employer or user, are solely responsible for:

  • declaring every arrival and departure to Ergani correctly and on time, and for checking that each declaration arrived (in Ergani itself, not only in Karta);
  • schedules, overtime, leave, breaks and every other obligation under labour law;
  • any fine, penalty, inspection or dispute with employees or authorities.

Ergani may be down, change how it connects, or reject declarations. The internet or power may fail, and the server, the screen or a password may break or be set up wrongly. In every such case, it is your obligation to declare another way (for example directly in Ergani).

4. Backups and record retention

The law requires you to keep working-time records for years. You are responsible for keeping backups, checking that they run, testing that they restore, and keeping their passwords (encryption password, PIN_KEY, the .env file). If data is lost for any reason (disk or SD card failure, deletion, a bug in Karta or in an update, a closed cloud account, a lost password), the author bears no responsibility.

5. Schedules, hours and reports

Karta's hours, totals, reports and alerts are an aid. They are not legal, accounting or employment advice. Check them with your accountant before relying on them for payroll, declarations or anything else.

6. Personal data

Karta stores personal data about your staff. For that data, you are the controller under the GDPR, not Karta's author. You are responsible for informing employees, the legal basis, server security, updates, access to the admin page and passwords. The author has no access to your data and does not process it.

7. Third-party services

Karta may use third-party services (Cloudflare, Google Drive, Dropbox, Backblaze, ntfy, Oracle Cloud, domain providers and others). Their own terms apply. The author is not responsible for their availability, changes, cost or security.

8. Use outside its intended purpose

The author is not responsible when Karta is used in a way the documentation does not describe, for example:

  • with modified code, changed settings or an old version;
  • exposed to the internet without the admin page protection;
  • without backups;
  • in production without testing it first;
  • for unlawful purposes, or to monitor employees beyond what the law allows.

9. Updates and support

There is no obligation to provide updates, fixes, support or to continue the project. An update may change how the app behaves. Make a backup before updating.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the author and contributors of Karta are not liable for any damage, direct or indirect. This includes fines, data loss, lost profits, business interruption, disputes with employees or authorities, and third-party claims. It applies even if they were told such damage was possible.

If any term is found invalid, the rest remain in force.

11. Not legal advice

Nothing in Karta or its documentation is legal, accounting or tax advice. Ask your accountant or lawyer about your obligations.

If the Greek and English texts differ, the Greek text prevails.
