Artifacts

Minecraft 1.20.1 / Forge: this page documents that build and its measurements. For the separate 170-control Minecraft 1.21.1 port, see Minecraft 1.21.1 NeoForge.

One control for Artifacts 9.5.16 (mod id artifacts): the checks in its living-tick handler run in a cheaper order. The switch checks the code it would change against the tested build; another build is left untouched with one WARN line (see How the patches are applied).

Artifacts living-tick checks in a cheaper order. Artifacts checks the kitty slippers and the umbrella for every living entity every tick. The slippers check scans the last attacker's whole Curios inventory before it tests whether the entity is a creeper, and the umbrella check runs a Curios lookup for every entity in water before the cheap glide tests. Both conditions are side-effect-free tests joined by "and", so the switch asks the cheap ones first: the creeper test first, the water and charm-of-sinking test last. Same branch, same attribute changes, same fall-distance reset.

Measured: 1,043,628 in-game checks of the reordered conditions against the original order, all identical (shadow mode, client session with about 510 mods); in the review-8 server profile the two handlers were 0.11% of the server thread.
