| macOS | macOS 15 Sequoia or later |
| Hardware | Mac with Apple silicon (tested). Intel Macs aren't tested or supported |
| Jamf Pro | Jamf Cloud or on-premises Jamf Pro, reachable from your Mac. Inspector and the profile builders work offline, except when you upload a profile |
| Internet | Needed to activate a licence and to check it now and then (see Licensing and Trial) |
| Jamf account | An API client or a Jamf Pro user account with the right privileges (see Jamf API Permissions) |
- Go to the Releases page and open the latest release.
- Under Assets, download the
.pkginstaller. - Double-click the
.pkgand follow the installer. You'll need an administrator password. The installer puts Magic Toolbox.app in your Applications folder. - Open Magic Toolbox from Applications or Launchpad.
When the app first opens, your 72-hour free trial starts. You don't need a licence key to try every tool.
The installer and app are signed by MDM Magic and notarised by Apple, so macOS opens them without any Gatekeeper warnings. If macOS says the installer can't be opened or is damaged, delete it and download it again from the official Releases page.
Because Magic Toolbox comes as a standard .pkg, you can deploy it to your admin team's Macs with a Jamf Pro policy or Self Service, like any other package:
- Upload the
.pkgto Jamf Pro (Settings → Computer management → Packages). - Add it to a policy scoped to your admins' Macs, or make it available in Self Service.
| Identifier | Value |
|---|---|
| Bundle ID | au.mdmmagic.MagicToolbox |
| App name | Magic Toolbox.app |
Each licence key works on one Mac at a time (see Licensing and Trial). Every admin who uses the app on their own Mac needs their own licence.
Download the newer .pkg from the Releases page and install it over the top of the old version. You keep your licence activation, saved servers, saved credentials, preferences and Login Item Profiles rule sets.
Quit Magic Toolbox before you update. Closing the window isn't enough, because the app keeps running in the menu bar. Click the wand icon in the menu bar and choose Quit Magic Toolbox (⌘Q). If a tool is still changing Jamf Pro, the app asks you to confirm; let it finish first.
After updating, tools that used a saved server keep working. Reviewed conflicts in Profile Conflicts and Login Item Profiles rule sets are carried over. Login item rules the new version can't use are dropped, with a message.
Tip: to be told about new versions, click Watch → Custom → Releases on the GitHub repository.
- Deactivate your licence first if you want to use it on another Mac: click About (?) → Deactivate (see Licensing and Trial).
- Quit Magic Toolbox from the menu bar icon.
- Delete Magic Toolbox.app from
/Applications. - Optional: remove the app's settings and data by deleting:
~/Library/Containers/au.mdmmagic.MagicToolbox
- Optional: saved Jamf credentials and the Tool Lock PIN are in the Keychain, not in that folder. Open Keychain Access, search for
com.mdmmagic.MagicToolbox, and delete the items. - Optional: journals saved to your Downloads folder (
*_Journal_*.log) and any backup files you saved are left where they are.
