Minecraft Civilizations

Build a home. Found a nation. Shape its future.

Civilizations turns Minecraft Java survival into a shared journey of settlement, industry, research, religion, and scheduled border wars. Join an existing civilization or lead your own: gather supplies, build on protected land, fund new technology, and defend what your community creates. No client mod is required by this plugin.

This wiki covers Civilizations 1.0.1 and its bundled defaults. A server owner can change many rules, costs, and timings. Read the in-game menus and confirmation previews for your server’s current values.

Latest changes

  • Leadership claims: advisors can claim leadership after the leader has been offline seven full days; citizens qualify only if no advisors exist.
  • Divine favor: successful sacrifices raise personal favor from level 1 to 3, improving acceptance odds. Demeter now accepts bread.
  • Dimension offerings: Nether and End trips require a Nether Ember or End Sigil. Find their recipes alongside the War Charter in /civ items → Other Items.
  • Water-bottle compatibility: plain water can be drunk without Alchemy.

Server owners: review the 1.0.1 upgrade notes for schema and religion-catalog changes.

How your civilization grows

  1. Settle together. Join a civilization or found one with physical civic items. Your capital anchors connected territory.
  2. Supply the community. Craft civic materials and deposit them in the permanent stockpile.
  3. Earn Knowledge. Leaders and advisors complete work orders using those shared materials.
  4. Research technology. Spend Knowledge and additional civic materials to unlock capabilities for current members.
  5. Build and expand. Claim adjacent chunks, create common areas, and offer private homes to citizens.
  6. Prepare for conflict. Eligible neighbors can declare campaigns for a scheduled fighting and looting window.

Personal currency, treasury money, civic materials, and Knowledge are separate balances. Learn what each one pays for.

Know these rules before you play

  • Research changes vanilla progression. Under the default strict rules, owning a locked tool or vehicle does not unlock its use. Villager trading and physical dimension portals are disabled.
  • Stockpile deposits cannot be withdrawn. Refine items to the needed tier before depositing.
  • Private homes have their own access rules. Government roles do not automatically grant access to another citizen’s plot.
  • Weekly taxes can cost you your plot. With currency features active, verified insufficient funds at billing immediately reclaims that plot. The starting weekly rate is zero.
  • War can permanently damage builds. Ownership stays the same, but broken buildings and looted items are not automatically restored.

Run a server

The documented target is Spigot API 26.2, Java 25, and MySQL 8.x. Currency features additionally need Vault and an economy provider; the bundled economy mode is disabled.

Start with server setup, then review configuration, permissions, and PlaceholderAPI. Operators can use administration and maintenance, admin commands, server troubleshooting, and the detailed operations runbook. Source contributors can follow building and contributing.
