Travel and dimensions

Find wilderness, return to your capital, and unlock safe travel to the Nether and End.

This wiki documents Civilizations 1.0.1. Numbers are bundled defaults; in-game menus and previews show your server’s current values.

Command / event Destination Requirement Default timing
First-ever join Safe random unclaimed Overworld ground Automatic after territory readiness Free; does not use /wild cooldown
/wild Safe random unclaimed Overworld ground civilizations.wild, granted by default 12 hours after successful manual use
/nether Random safe Nether ground below its roof Nether Expedition technology + 1 Nether Ember 5-second warmup; shared 60-second dimension cooldown
/end Random safe End island ground End Expedition technology + 1 End Sigil Same dimension warmup/cooldown
/civ teleport nether / end Same as the shortcuts Same as the shortcuts Same shared dimension cooldown
/civ teleport overworld Configured safe Overworld return point No expedition technology Same dimension warmup/cooldown
/civ home Civilization home in its capital Membership and enabled home travel Separate 5-second warmup / 60-second home cooldown

Dimension technology checks still apply in CRAFT_ONLY mode. DISABLED technology enforcement or an explicit technology bypass can waive them. Nether/End random travel works even if you are already in that target dimension. Overworld dimension-return travel is a fixed return, not another /wild.

Random travel uses the destination world's live border. /wild requires safe surface ground with two empty blocks above it; dimension travel requires a supported clear 3×3 patch. Nether searches reject the roof, bedrock floors, and hazardous landings. End searches require End stone ground, rejecting void, obsidian platforms, and obstructed landing patches.

A search tries at most 64 random candidates and times out after two minutes (after the dimension warmup where applicable). Work is spread over server ticks. If no suitable land is found, you stay where you are and can retry without consuming a cooldown. Searches can take longer on unexplored terrain.

Moving or taking damage cancels pending dimension travel. Successful travel clears falling momentum. The dimension cooldown is separate from /wild; using /nether does not consume a 12-hour wilderness use.

The /wild cooldown and pending first-join placement are saved in player data and survive reconnects/restarts. If first placement fails or you disconnect, a later join or /wild retries that free placement. Returning players who already completed it are not moved automatically. Home and dimension cooldowns are runtime state and reset when the plugin/server restarts.

Ritual offerings and recipes

Both shortcuts and /civ teleport require a genuine Nether Ember or End Sigil in your inventory or offhand for the corresponding dimension. This requirement still applies when technology enforcement is disabled or bypassed. One offering is consumed per successful trip, including travel within the same dimension. Keep it with you until arrival: removing it blocks travel. Cancelled, failed, or timed-out trips preserve the offering. Overworld returns require none.

Open /civ items → Other Items and click Nether Ember or End Sigil to view its recipe. The recipes are also discovered automatically in the recipe book. Both are shapeless crafting-table recipes: put one ingredient in each occupied slot, with repeated ingredients in separate slots. Each craft yields one offering.

Offering Ingredients
Nether Ember 2 obsidian, 1 amethyst shard, 1 honeycomb, 1 rabbit foot, 1 gunpowder, 1 gold ingot
End Sigil 2 eyes of ender, 1 ghast tear, 1 blaze rod, 1 prismarine crystals, 1 phantom membrane, 1 diamond, 1 amethyst shard

Nether Ember ingredients are obtainable before visiting the Nether. End Sigils draw on Nether and Overworld exploration and need no End-only ingredients. A Nether Ember looks like a firework star and an End Sigil like an echo shard, but renaming those vanilla items does not create a valid offering. Ritual items cannot be used as ordinary crafting ingredients.
