5. Obligation, Duty and Morality rolls

For the GM, at the start of a session.

Each rulebook has a roll at the start of a session to see whose past catches up with them: Obligation (Edge of the Empire), Duty (Age of Rebellion) and Morality (Force and Destiny). The Group Manager does it for the whole party.

Where they are

Open the Group Manager (hover over the Destiny Tracker → people icon, see chapter 4). At the bottom, under Group Rolls, there is a tab for each of Obligation, Duty and Morality that at least one character has.

The tables are built from the characters the Group Manager lists, so if a tab is missing or someone isn't on it, check that their character is assigned to them (see chapter 4).

Obligation and Duty

The tab shows the party's d100 table: each character's Obligation or Duty, stacked one after another, with the range each covers. A character's range is their whole track: the value in the Obligation box plus every entry on their sheet. With a box of 20 and one Debt entry of 10, Debt covers 30 numbers. With several entries, the box takes a slice of its own with no name next to it. That isn't double-counting.

  1. Click the die next to Roll for group Obligation (or Duty).
  2. The system rolls a d100 and posts who it hit, e.g. "Debt Obligation Triggered For Dax". If the roll is past the end of the table, nobody's is triggered.

The ranges come from the Obligation / Duty entries on each character's sheet. Change a character's entries and the table updates.

Morality

The Morality tab lists each character's Morality score with their emotional strength and weakness.

Click the die next to Roll for group Morality. The character whose Morality is closest to the d100 roll is triggered. The result names them with their strength and weakness, which is what the session should bring into play. It doesn't show their score. If two are equally close, both are named.

Keeping the result secret

By default the roll and the result are whispered to the GM, so players don't know whose Obligation came up. To roll in the open, turn off Enable Private Group Manager Table Rolls under Configure Settings → Star Wars FFG → Group Manager Settings → Configure Group Manager.

Using different Morality rules

The reSpecialized project publishes an optional replacement for Morality — a ten-point Dark / Neutral / Light Force Presence scale with Tranquility alongside Conflict — and Kelborn's SWFFG Force Presence implements it. Under those rules the Morality score and the triggering roll described above no longer apply.
