Subclass Illrigger Painkiller
![]()
The Painkiller is an Illrigger subclass built around Dispater's influence. Where other Illriggers curse their enemies or drain their life force, the Painkiller deals maximum damage when it counts, supports allies as a tactical force multiplier, and expands its critical hit range as the game advances.
| LEVEL | FEATURE |
|---|---|
| 3 | Dispater's Blessing, Devastator, Grand Strategist |
| 7 | Dispater's Supremacy |
| 11 | You Die on My Command! |
You gain proficiency with all martial weapons and ignore the two-handed property of weapons when you have a free hand.
Ignoring the two-handed property with a free hand means you can wield a two-handed weapon and still carry a shield, use a reaction, or hold an object without losing the weapon's damage.
When you hit an Interdicted creature, you can choose to Devastate them — dealing maximum damage instead of rolling. Once you use this, you cannot use it again until the start of your next turn.
Devastator delivers maximum damage instead of a roll — no variance on the most important attack each turn. Combined with Dispater's Supremacy at Level 7, the expanded crit range increases how often Devastator triggers on critical hits.
You can take the Help action as a Bonus Action. When you Help an ally, they also gain a bonus to their damage roll equal to your Charisma modifier.
Grand Strategist gives an ally Advantage plus a flat Charisma modifier damage bonus every turn at no resource cost.
Your Interdict now causes the target to have disadvantage on Constitution saving throws. Additionally, your critical hit range with weapons expands by 1 (crits on 19–20).
Dispater's Supremacy provides two upgrades: Disadvantage on Constitution saves makes concentration spells on the marked target more likely to hold, and the expanded crit range increases Devastator's frequency.
When a creature under your Interdict is reduced to 0 HP, you can use your Reaction to have them make one final action — a single attack against a target of your choice — before falling. Even in death, they serve.
You Die on My Command! converts a kill into a free Reaction attack. The dying creature attacks a target of your choice before falling — useful for chaining pressure onto a second target when the marked creature dies.
The Painkiller is a precision striker and party accelerator that maximizes single-target damage while pulling the entire party's output upward.
Your combat identity:
- Baleful Interdict — mark your primary target; Devastator and Dispater's Supremacy both key off it
- Devastator — once per turn, deal maximum damage instead of rolling; no variance when it matters
- Grand Strategist — Help as a Bonus Action every turn; your allies hit harder because you exist
- Dispater's Supremacy at Level 7 — expanded crit range and Constitution disadvantage on your marked target
- You Die on My Command! at Level 11 — kill the marked target, redirect their final act at the next threat
